About Me
Now I need to get an out-of-body experience and describe myself. Just second. Here you go. OK. I am red-hair Lithuanian (one of the two can be debated), born near the sea. Maybe that’s why I love sea and ocean, any time of the year.
I am a neuroscientist, working on peculiarities of our visual system. I like travelling (for work, and leisure), learning new languages, discovering new places and people which at the same time is a way of discovering myself.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
“It’s all about people, people” - my friends heard me saying this once or twice. I do wholeheartedly believe that life is about people, and places, which is still about people.
Music, Movies, and Books
Stranvinsky “Rite of spring”, Aphex Twin “Vordhosbn”, Lhasa de Sela “Anywhere on this road”, Tom Waits "God's Away On Business", Astor Piazzolla “Verano Porteno”. The first movie that comes to mind is “The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover" for is a synthesis of amazing scenery, music, and costumes brought together by three talented men: Peter Greenway, Michael Nyman, Jean-Paul Gaultier. A few last books I liked: Julian Barnes “The Sense of an Ending”; Flannery O'Connor “A good man is hard to find”; Irvin Yalom “When Nietzsche wept”. There are many others, but we can talk about it when we meet.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I bought a camera in 2003 to have an excuse to walk in unusual places without anyone asking “wtf are you doing here?” Since then I never travel without a camera. I wouldn’t consider myself a photographer but I can give you an advice on photo equipment - the best camera to have is the one that is with you.
Teach, Learn, Share
I could teach you how to sew your own clothes and make jewelry, how to control brain with light, or how to make time-frequency decomposition of your recorded laugh using Matlab.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can share stories of people and places I’ve met and I would love to listen to your stories.
