ABOUT ME

Hi there!

I'm currently a teacher in Singapore - teaching Physics and English Language in a secondary school. How my friends would describe me? I guess they'd say 'Rasyid the guy who can't stay put in Singapore?' :D

Fell in love with travelling and backpacking many years ago and have been doing it ever since.

Really enjoy meeting the people during my trips. Places are there for tourists, but travelers meet the people and culture and enjoy the exchange and interaction! The people make the journey, and the journey is the adventure.

PHILOSOPHY

your life, your decision. so do it for yourself and for no one else.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Holla if you're in Singapore.

Would love to meet up for coffee, and bring you around this small but amazing island.

Would be more than happy to bring you around and see the 'touristy' spots like the Singapore Zoo, Singapore Flyer, Jurong Bird Park, etc and spend the entire day talking about the crazy adventures around the world (I have free passes! :D). Else, we can just chat over coffee!

I've been showing many of my overseas friends (from India, S.Korea, Japan, Israel, Indonesia, etc) when they visit Singapore. They were not CSers but I met them at events locally and overseas. And I always enjoy bringing them around and being a lost traveler myself in my own country.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've been doing CS with another friend but have finally decided to create my own account and try it out on my own!

I'm still living with my parents in Singapore, so it can be quite a challenge for me to host CSers now. Yes, many Singaporeans still live with their parents, until they get married in their late 20s early 30s. More about that when we meet. :)

Interests

How do I spend my time? It's either travelling, or planning a trip, or dreaming of one. I'm serious. I'm a part-time teacher and a full-time traveler I guess.

Trying out new stuff, going on a new adventure, anything and everything I guess.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The best moment I had so far was to experience the Northern Lights in the Arctic Circle in Sweden in Winter 2011. But I can't just stop at ONE amazing thing..so..

The night sky of the Sahara Desert and the sunrise the next morning was an unforgettable experience.

And the adventure junkie side when I did a tandem skydive in Sydney in 2009! One hell of a ride!

Took a 3 days 2 nights train from China to Tibet, went to the Everest Base Camp, rafted down the rapids in Nepal and jumped off a cliff in Nepal to para-glide.

Goin up to the Everest Base Camp (North Base Camp). And I have dreams of going to Everest again, to summit it this time. Maybe...we'll be the first group of Singapore Teachers reaching the summit of the world's highest mountain.

But I still have loads more to do in my list! Solo skydive, Diving, completing the first marathon, going to Antarctica...and MANY MANY MORE!

Teach, Learn, Share

Hmmmm, this will be interesting. I am a teacher, but I always tell my students to travel the world to learn and not limit themselves to the boundaries of the classroom and school.

I guess the interactions I will have with other CSers will be the best teacher for me, to open myself to more perspectives and learn something unexpected.

I have been to various parts of Asia, Europe and Africa and have studied in Sweden for 6 months for an exchange. Maybe the experiences will be something interesting for others to learn from.
