About Me

Interested in learning more about the world through travel, reading, and listening to stories. Feel old at heart, but not in a stuffy boring way.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've hosted a few people before which was fun. I'm back on the site because I'm planning a visit to Nashville for fun, networking, and to see if I'd like to live there.

Interests

I enjoy learning new skills and teaching others. Strong believer in the power (and dangers) of community building.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like avant garde music or music that at least tries to do something different outside standard genre forms. But great story telling is important in music too. Typical genres I enjoy are jazz and its offshoots such as R&B, disco, funk, electronic forms. Chiptunes. Rock. Melody-heavy rap. Folk. Impressionistic. Most American forms I enjoy to varying degrees. Not so familiar with world music. I like salsa in general. And how Japan has run with Western music and made it their own.

Don't watch many movies because of short attention span for them. I like documentaries, dramas, comedies, horror. Not really into action.

Books I don't spend enough time reading. But I like books, articles, and podcasts about improving human and societal performance.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Co-founded and built a men's roller derby team nearly from the ground up with lots of help from community members and other volunteers. Ran the Training program.

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm well versed on skating, especially on roller skates, but can teach you basics on inlines or ice as well.

Moderate amount of music theory knowledge from self study, but not as comprehensive as someone who went to school for music. I've played brass instruments (trumpet, euphonium) and strummed string instruments (guitar, ukulele).

I also read quite a bit about health including fitness, mental wellness, group behaviors dynamics, etc. I like to help people if they have personal problems if they want advice, though I'm no licensed therapist.

My profession is software development so I can help with some computer-related questions. But I probably won't know hot to fix your computer.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm responsible, relatively mature, and try to live my life by good values such as empathy and caring. I also enjoy teaching and can share skills. Or I'm down to just go out and have fun at a concert or low key pub.
