About Me

I love to cook and have long (sometimes drunken) conversations about politics and current events. I also like going on adventures, i.e. bushwhacking, exploring abandoned buildings, talking to strangers etc.

I love being outdoors but I don't pretend to be a great athlete--walks, hikes and skiing are about the most hardcore I get.

I'm reading constantly.

If it doesn't excite you it's not worth doing!

Music, Movies, and Books

BOOKS: I studied German, English & American literature but I've been getting more into non-fiction lately. Favorites are Der Zauberberg, Woyzeck, World's End, Infinte Jest, and The Waves.

MOVIES: I LOVE watching movies. My favorite directors are Kubrick, Lynch, Bergman, Tarantino & the Coen Bros. I'm really into watching terrible movies with large groups of cynical hecklers.

MUSIC: Eclectic but selective. Dance music. Post-rock/punk. No/new wave. Grunge. Eighties alternative. Eighties pop. Increasingly, hip-hop.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went out into the middle of Badwater Basin, the lowest point in the western hemisphere which is basically a desert made of salt instead of sand, in the middle of the night at the full moon. The moon reflected off the ground and made the earth glow. The craggy peaks all around me standing in silhouette against the sky and the oppressive heat (111 degrees F) made it feel like a dream.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can tell you a whole lot about nineteenth century German literature, Czech New Wave film, Beverly Hills 90210 and the career of James Spader.

Possibly also other more useful things, like how to bake like an American and how to conjugate verbs in English.

Countries I’ve Visited

Bahamas, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Vatican City State

Countries I’ve Lived In
