About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I just moved to a new continent and live in a country where I don't speak the language. Everything is a mission for me :)

ABOUT ME

I'm either very brave, or very stupid. My friends tell me both. I 'had' a really good, stable job in a good company where the people loved me and I loved the work, etc. I just quit my job however (I gave 4 months notice) and bought 1-way tickets to Europe. Now I live in Poland and I have no plan. yay...

One of the things I live about CS so much is staying with real, locals who know the place well and can show you how people actually live in the places you're visiting. Now, I'm Australian and living in Poland, so you're obviously not going to get that from me. I have no preferences about who stays on my couch (nationality, gender etc) but especially if you're Polish and visiting Warszawa, consider my couch so at least one of us can see how real Polish people live :p

PHILOSOPHY

Even if you're ABSOLUTELY SURE you will get as many chances as you could possibly ever need - ALWAYS live your life like you'll only ever get one chance.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I pimped out my couch (huge, comfy couch) in Perth and Warszawa to over 175 people now, and I've stayed on couches in France, Spain, Germany, Poland, Slovenia and Australia.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've had almost all positive experiences, both hosting and surfing. I've had more bad experiences surfing than hosting. Weird. It turns out some people are a bit strange, but the good thing about couch surfing is that it teaches you tollerance. This is one of CS's great strengths, I think. Most bad experiences of mine are from people who are angry at something else and just aren't sociable, but in my over 100 couch surfing experiences, maybe 5 were not so good.

My spreadsheet tells me I've not had 1056 people on my couch (as of December 31st 2009), even though I didn't think I'd break 100 until 2010 because the warm weather ended in Poland. Its not a race, I just tend to say yes to people if my couch is empty. I guess I'm sociable like that.

Interests

Massive gadget freak. Love any sport that might get me killed (participating - NOT INTERESTED in watching them). I go indoor rock climbing (no hills in Australia) and I hope to learn skuba diving sometime soon-ish. Things like that. I used to spend way too much time at work, but that's because I had one of "those" jobs where you work when its needed, and I like to do a good job at anything I do.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I left this field blank for a looong time but now people are telling me what I'm currently doing is amazing, so why not share. Apparently most people just couldn't do it, but I decided all of my stuff just gets in the way. Its a weird feeling to give away everything I call my own and everything most people assume makes me who I am.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've spend a lot of years on various chat programs on the net being inundated by people wanting practice speaking English, so I'm getting quite good at this. Mostly I correct people when they're wrong (I do that a lot) and tease people mercilessly if they misuse the words "take" and "should", as soooooo many people do. That's my only skill :p

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, Serbia, Spain, Thailand, United Kingdom
