ABOUT ME

I'm a free-spirit that loves smiling, traveling, and pursuing good coffee. I love hiking in the mountains and dancing in high heels. I'm relaxed and approach life wide open. I am a naturally happy individual that loves to look people in the eye.

On a more historical note, I live in Indiana, was born in Colorado, and grew up in North Carolina. I love all these places for very different reasons and will always consider them home. I adore my rock-climbing sister and am grateful for the amazing network of close friends that are scattered around the US. I have an intense passion for peanut butter... crunchy, smooth, mixed with honey - you name it. I have always wanted to dye a strip of hair bright pink, but haven't committed to it yet. I would rather wear chacos than any other shoe and think that people need more hugs than what they first admit.

I love healthy foods and activities. I am vegetarian simply because my tastebuds just love veggies. However, on that same note - I am grateful for any meals served by hosts and will not turn down your home-cooked efforts even if they contain meat! I believe we shouldn't be so quick to judge because sometimes you don't know what you don't know. We all carry stories with us that shape our outlook and perception of the present moment. I think traveling is an opportunity to not only discover others, but also discover yourself.

PHILOSOPHY

Be true to the person you are and allow others to be true to the person they are. Not that this is always easy - but it doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

I would love to share some time with you if you find yourself in Lafayette, Indiana. I am currently in a position where I am unable to host - but am certainly willing to help you feel comfortable exploring the area during your travels.

sipping chai tea, my two partners in crime (don't worry, they are my dog and cat!), early morning runs, those from other walks of life, I have a peculiar fascination with the mystery behind giant squids, I think deeply stained wood floors have a classic beauty, and hats... I love hats. :)

Career wise - I'm a veterinary student interested in public health. I love animals, people, travel, and the environment and what better way to combine all these than hunt down viruses around the world or serve on an emergency disease outbreak team? I absolutely love what I do. To help put my personality in perspective, a friend once described me as the most laid-back efficient person they knew ~ which I first thought was kinda funny, but also a very insightful one.

My loves in life are Clover and Ribo, my dog and cat pair that keep me sane and grounded. They've been with me for almost 5 years and I hope they will stay for many more. :)

The 9 months out of the year that I spend as a veterinary student force me to devote all my time to science textbooks. The remaining 3 months allow me a little time to dabble in random recommended literature from other reader friends. Recently the choices have been... Man's Search for Meaning, Life of Pi, The Alchemist, The Other Boleyn Girl and The Red Tent.

Music... I love all sorts from country to big band to classical and so on... but LIVE music is definately my favorite way to listen. :)

Acted as surrogate mother and cuddled with a stranded baby walrus pup when working wildlife rehab in Alaska.

Watched the sun set on the red rock of Delicate Arch in Arches National Park.

I love dancing... I swing-danced all last summer and would LOVE to learn salsa (hint, hint!) :) I'm willing to trip over my feet until I get it right.

I have a passion for dog-behavior and training and can offer advice or at least some understanding.
