About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To keep, as much as may be, time's winged chariot at arm's length. To take time. To apprehend, appreciate, and celebrate beauty.

ABOUT ME

I am a recovering redneck. As I said, I grew up in a very small provincial Texas town. Our McDonald's had only one arch. Actually, we didn't have a McDonalds; I don't think McDonalds even existed then. What we did have was an A&W Drive-In, now long gone. It faced Main Street; we used to back the car in and sit there sipping root beer and watching life. Not a bad way to grow up, all things considered. It made for a cramped, narrow worldview, yes, but I also learned self-sufficiency and an appreciation for simple, uncluttered living as well. I acquired the ability to sit still and listen, a skill which the buffets of life soon deprived me of, but one I am slowly regaining.

I know there is a God and that He loves His children, for in my eighteenth year He brought a lithe, white-shouldered blonde enchantress into my life who opened my heart to gentle, delicate things. Her ivory hands on the ivory keys/ Strayed in a fitful fantasy, and twenty-eight years later I'm still looking on, mesmerized.

Kids: yes. Nothing poetic here; fatherhood is not for the faint of heart. Gird up your loins, gentlemen, you who would brave these waters.
