Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am new to the couchsurfing network, but not new to the concept or practice of it. I have played in bands, toured Canada and the United states, slept on many floors, couches, backyards, chairs....I have had many fine folks stay with me, in similar situations. I believe in karma, and in balance. If I get, I reciprocate and give, whether directly or indirectly. This is how and why I share music and art with those around me.
I am about to embark on some solo travels to the middle east. I am excited to sleep on the couches of new and diverse people, to learn and share in the host/guest relationship, and maybe learn some hebrew and arabic along the way.

so many and so much. I play the viola and the violin, am a sucker for anything that slides and swings. thinga I can shake it to. I love imersing myself in the folk traditions of wherever I am, world music, folk, blues, old time, swing, reggae, balkan, jazz and gypsy, electronic, rock, french canadian, classical, baroque, hip-hop, soul, psychedelia, experimental, punk...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

My last two winters were spent living on a frozen lake in Minnesota, in small structures or Shanties that I built, along with a couple others. An amazing experience, of building a temporary home, furnishing it, making it cozy, and living simply, without electricity, or central heating. We ate off of our trusty wood stoves, huddled for warmth at night, chopped wood, sang songs, wrote letters and were merry, in the simplicity of our own constructed and idyllic reality. This is the first winter in a while where I will not be living atop 2 feet of solid ice. My feet feel steady, but want to move...some day i hope to make another, more permanent home, that will capture some of the beauty and simplicity that these shanties found.
