About Me

Solo Mother to a beautiful 2 year old. We are currently living nomadically, between loved ones, wild camping adventures and visiting communities... this way we are much less isolated and I can be more creative to find a lifestyle that works for us! Ideally, I'd like to find a community we can nest with and live off-grid/land connected/low impact... but these things take time to find the right match, so until then, we are exploring.

••

I grew up in the 'home counties', just outside of London, UK, in an academic, introverted and food loving family. My heart rests nestled in England's rolling green hills.

••

My life centres around slowing down, building strong relationships in the communities around me and ever seeking to re-connect with nature and ecologically sustainable ways of living in every sense - from how to gather, store, transport and prepare food, to wondering where my clothes come from, how to build a nurturing home and how to live in harmonious relationship with our deeper selves and one another. Building bridges across belief systems.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

It's a practise in sharing what I have and learning to live alongside others. To live in a culture of gift/dharna economy. It's also an amazing way to meet a fairly diverse range of people..

Interests

I am fascinated by human psychology, sociology, history, philosophy, anthropology... Music - classical, folk and beyond, has always been a big part of my life. These days mostly I sing lullabies and make up nursery rhymes but once upon a time I played cello in orchestras and was magnetized towards pianos. I am a super keen contra/ceilidh dancer and also love bal and blues. I believe strongly in dharna/gift economy - take only what I need, give all that I can - and am always trying to look for new ways to apply these principles to my life. I’m REALLY excited about permaculture and holistic systems thinking.

Music, Movies, and Books

Big documentary fan.. a favourite is The Economics of Happiness.

Lover of folk music and a fair amount of new age singer/songwriter like Ayla Nereo and Peia

I mostly read non-fiction books; History, Anthropology, Social and Economic theory, occasionally some on Spirituality and self-development . On the go right now... Who Owns England by Guy Shrubsole and Wicca for the Solo Practitioner by Scott Cunningham . Some that have really shaped my journey include; Restoration Agriculture by Mark Shepard and The Children's Fire by Mac McCartney.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Solo hiking 150 miles across Southern England during my third trimester 🤣

Teach, Learn, Share

These days I'm told repeatedly that the way I parent is very inspiring. Which is just as well because it's hard for me to focus on anything else! But I also have a few skills up my sleeve around seasonal cooking, minimizing food waste and basic fermentation.

I'm especially keen right now to learn more about herbalism, foraging and working with fibre (e.g. cordage and yarn spinning).

What I Can Share with Hosts

The company of my very cute, sociable toddler. Cooking skills, willingness to do the washing up (in between meeting my son's big toddler needs), knowledge on local/seasonal food and wild herbs. Listening ear, big heart, my own stories.
