Hi! I'm Rebecca. I am from the United States and recently graduated with my bachelor's degree in biomedical engineering. I have a passion for research and science but absolutely love being outside. I have worked in multiple biomedical engineering labs performing research on pancreatic cancer to develop the tumor microenvironment, skin wrinkle dynamics to aid in cosmetic testing, traumatic brain injury to test potential therapies, and synovial sarcoma to develop techniques to monitor cancer treatment. During my summer and winter breaks, I took some time to get out of the lab. I spent multiple summers as a camp counselor for all different ages. I was one of the primary counselors who would bring the kids from activity to activity, participate in games, and ensure their safety and happiness. In addition, I spent two weeks studying alternative medicine in Belize; my class toured the inland and visited Mayan people to participate in ceremonies and hear their stories. This past summer (2019) I was a crew member for Rocky Mountain Youth Corps in Colorado. For ten weeks I lived in a tent and worked, alongside my ten-person crew, to build and maintain trails. It was one of the most transformative experiences; I got to become one with nature and learn how to be with the same people 24/7.

I am currently taking a break between my undergraduate and graduate studies to explore the world, help good people, and learn about myself. I have spent the last 5 months living and interning in Tel Aviv, Israel at a hospital (where I studied synovial sarcoma). I learned a lot about independence and discovered my love for travel.
