About Me

I feel like I am terrible at talking about myself. Kansas born, and have spent most of my life here. I went to San Antonio, Texas my first year of college, and got terribly homesick. I like living in my small, sort of rural community. I enjoying taking care of our livestock, gardening, cooking, and dancing the two-step with my husband.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to travel more, but also want to "live like a local." The differences in the way people do things fascinates me, as well as the amazing number of things that are the same. When I was teaching horseback riding lessons, I had a student from Kyrgyzstan come out to the barn, and I got such a kick out of the fact that they used the same type of rope halters on their horses there that I did. In Belgium, laughed at the fact that used tires are apparently used to cover silage there as well. I like the idea of a sharing economy, both in the financial benefits to both parties and in the way it leads to community building.

Music, Movies, and Books

All sorts of stuff.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Last year I decided that I wanted to go to Europe, as I had been wanting to go since high school. So, I signed up for Scott's Cheap Flights emails and decided that the first thing out of a local airport, out of the country, for under $500, I was going. Ended up flying in to Brussels, Belgium, and spending a week. It was amazing. I don't speak French or Dutch, knew nothing about Belgium but learned a lot from the guidebook, had never used public transportation or been out of the US, and went all by my lonesome. Lots of challenges, but also lots of fun.

Teach, Learn, Share

My "career" has been training horses and teaching riding lessons, although that is on hold at the moment in order to take care of our daughter. I also spin, weave, knit, crochet, felt, and dye fiber. I'm a pretty curious person, and enjoying knowing the how and why of things.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Want to know more about farming in the US? How to knit, spin yarn, or weave? I'm a decent conversationalist, know a little bit about a very wide variety of subjects and an awful lot about the ones I'm passionate about.
