About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To become a boring person with some fun experiences along the way.

ABOUT ME

I'm really trying to write about myself. I'm thinking about it, and the most interesting thing about me seems to be the interesting people I meet.

If you want the boring basics, well, here they are:

I grew up in a suburb of Chicago. I don't just say "Chicago" because while it's all "Chicagoland" on a map, the truth is I grew up in a different culture.

When I graduated high school, I was so happy and proud to join the work force. What I mean is, it was right for me. Some people would say I made a modest living as a receptionist, but being the cheap-o miser that I amwas?, I saved over half my earnings.

With that, I decided quit (the best job ever) and go out to meet the world. I lived in Jordan for a year. I also traveled to some neighboring countries. Enjoyed the hell out of couchsurfing. Especially, I've made my best friends at the gatherings.

Now I'm back in school. I switched majors from Middle Eastern studies to Law Enforcement (policing.) I can really nerd out about policing. It's amazing! Law, ethics, sociology, psychology. I get to study all these things, and in the end, I get to directly help some real people. What a thrill!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm sorry to say, I don't participate like I used to. I'm back in school now, and, it's not a "struggle," but it's not as easy for me as a lifestyle. I just feel like a less reliable person.

I feel guilty, actually, but I don't want to accept to host people, or meet new people and promise to hang out, when I know I'm not organized enough to make it happen, or to do it with only half my heart--always thinking about my deadlines.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted and I've surfed. I've had the time of my life. My favorite things are the gatherings, though. I love people coming out to meet people!

I've been to gatherings in Amman, Chicago, Dublin and Lebanon (at least.) Its the perfect place to meet interesting travelers and savvy locals.

You, of course!

Was that cheesy?

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies? Casablanca, Heathers, Mean Girls, North by Northwest, Pay it Forward, Rear Window, Hero

I LOVE Jazz (particularly Miles Davis) and Musical Theater (particularly Stephen Sondheim).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Floating in the Dead Sea. It's more amazing than it sounds. (Even though it sounds amazing.)

Teach, Learn, Share

I'm pretty useless. Though, I know some French and some Arabic and would LOVE the opportunity to practice them.
