About Me
CURRENT MISSION
To create social cohesion in downtown Miami and across the world! woo hoo!
ABOUT ME
I moved to Miami a few years ago from Portland, Oregon. I have a young daughter, work as a cancer epidemiologist and am finishing up my PhD. I was an undergrad at Smith College so Smithies get preferential treatment (ok...not really but once a Smithie always a Smithie...).
Basically, I had trouble transitioning to Miami. It tends to be a transient, thoughtless place. But now that I have made a network of true friends, Miami is growing on me. But the reality is, Miami is a hard place to live but a GREAT PLACE TO VISIT!!!
I have no family here (all on West Coast of USA). So hosting people and filling my loft with friendly folks goin' places is particularly appealing. My daughter is high energy and loves a full house.
PHILOSOPHY
"Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness." ~ Mark Twain
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Mainly I have been a host--a lot since Dec 2008. Now host ONLY on the weekends. I am cutting back quite a bit so that each interaction is more meaningful.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Oh--the fold-out hidey bed of my early childhood. What better couchsurfing experience is there than at your grandparents when you are 7?
Most experiences have been a delight. CS is the vehicle to meet your friends you were meant to have--if you lived in a different city...or country...or went to a different school...or were born in a different generation...or had a longer layover in Milano...ah, I can go all string theory on this.
I appreciate folks who have details in their profile and who are looking for a compatible host. Couchsurf gets you my futon free for a night, but I welcome folks who understand couchsurfing is not merely finding a free place to crash.

Music, Movies, and Books
oh books. I like 'em all. music. Indie pop post punk stuff. movies. hhhmmmm...I need to watch more. I used to be addicted to Hong Kong cinema but watch more documentaries these days.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
overcome my fears the majority of the time...
Teach, Learn, Share
I can take you geocaching! The worldwide treasure hunt!
I can show you the Trapeze School 2 blocks away (note it closes for the summer). You may just find yourself flying through the air with the greatest of ease...it is a remarkable experience even if you are screaming your head off like I did (grin).
