About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Keep a positive attitude in a world gone crazy.

ABOUT ME

Obviously, I love to travel when time and $ is available. My likes are reading, gardening, movies, cooking for friends, wine, good conversation, watching hummingbirds, walking, going to the gym, playing golf.
I have two small grandchildren living in New Zealand and miss them terribly. My prior life - I was a working professional for 40 years. I started traveling when I was 29.

PHILOSOPHY

I am liberal in my political thought, tolerant of most others (OK, we all have a few limitations). I am not religious. I am generally for the underdog - the down-trodden and poor. I abhor violence and try to live by the golden rule - "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" I'm a 1960's peacenik

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have hosted a few times and mostly it has been very positive. I look forward to hosting in the future and may avail myself of opportunities to travel and couchsurf. Depending on the circumstances, I'd love to be able to show off my city and surrounding areas.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted but have not couchsurfed myself.

Interests

Well, I pretty much spelled out my activities. I have worked (volunteer) in our local refugee community providing them some language building and life skills for USA. Try to keep healthy and active.

Music, Movies, and Books

One of my favorite films "Dersu Uzala." I love foreign fims. Like all kinds of music, but can't get behind rap. I read lots - just finished "Cutting for Stone" by Verghese. Fabulous read. Some of my favorite authors are Barbara Kingsolver, Ken Follett, Tom Robbins.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Way too many to count. Sunrise over Kilimanjaro, tracking gorillas (and finding them), Santorini, shopping in Marrakesh, staying with local tribes in N. Thailand, cruising the Amazon, visiting Macchu Picchu, rice terraces of Bali, Mt. Everest, Kashmir in the fall, cooking classes in France, road-tripping in Italy, etc., etc., etc.

Teach, Learn, Share

Everyone has something to teach me - I love to cook with other people and learn their tricks and cuisine. I'm hoping anyone I host will be willing to share part of themselves with me - not just be a motel guest. I'd love to practice my extremely faltering French, Spanish and Italian.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Cook Islands, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Guatemala, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Kenya, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, Morocco, Nepal, New Zealand, Peru, Portugal, Rwanda, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Tanzania, Thailand, United Kingdom
