Overview
About Me
I used to be an American Peace Corps Volunteer living and working in Morocco. Now I'm still essentially a PCV in Morocco, but I just get paid more!
One essential thing you have to know about me is that I'm a professional chess player. If I'm hosting you, I'll be disappearing to the chess café to meet with the Moroccan Chess Federation and study/play. If you're hosting me, I'll probably head out from 1700-2000 to find the local club. I mean no disrespect. Meeting other chess masters is a part of my career and professional development.
I love sharing this part of my life with others, so you're definitely welcome to come and observe and talk with me as I play casual games. But chess to me is like when a professional musician is playing a fine composition. You don't walk up to someone playing Mozart and ask how their night is going. I just don't want to hurt anyone's feelings when I can't give them my full attention.
I'm currently touring across Southern Europe, and won't be back in Morocco until September. All CS hosting suspended until then, but let me know in advance and I'll definitely prepare a place for you.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I want to meet interesting people. It's that simple.
Interesting people read other people's profiles, so if you send me a request please include "my favorite artist/band is ___________."
Interests
I learn languages and play chess. The latter consumes most of my day and energy.
- wine
- chess
- camping
- languages
Music, Movies, and Books
I pretend to be cultured by listening to the albums from NPR's "All Songs Considered." Sufficiently subculture without having to convince yourself it's good music. Chris Staples's "American Soft" is what I'm into right now.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Ran a refugee camp in Cambodia.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach you some of the language in whatever country I'm currently living in and show you how I learn languages. Also chess. If someone could teach me to wolf whistle, that would be boss.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Lentil stew, vinegar pretending to be wine, and some funny stories.
