I live on a narrowboat in Leicestershire, England, on the River Soar with my partner Jessie and son Isa. I work at De Montfort University in Leicester where I lead on embedding sustainability learning within my university, which is a challenge, but fascinating.

I've devoted much of the last decade to volunteering on loads of projects to make my community more sustainable and resilient. Along the way I've learnt about permaculture, social enterprise, renewable energy, group dynamics and a whole lot more. I'm interested in meeting people involved in similar work when I travel.

Outside work, I'm mostly busy as a dad to a toddler - lots of housework, laundry, playgroups, reading books with ducks to spot...

When I used to have spare time, it was spent moving/fixing/enjoying our narrowboat home, playing sport (football, badminton and almost any other game), going on long cycle rides, playing strategy board games and having interesting conversations over food and drink.

I have travelled a lot around Europe, visiting most countries and living for a year in Barcelona, Spain. I also travelled around the world in 2005 on the Peace Boat, a Japanese NGO that promotes inter-cultural understanding. Me and Jessie went on a flight-free trip around North and Central America in 2018-19.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing as a host and an occasional traveller.

I've done a lot of hosting and travellling in this way over the years. I'm also active with another homestay organisation called Servas, and through CS and Servas I've slept on floors, spare beds and futons all over the world.
