About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get lost in the greens and blues of Kiwi country

ABOUT ME

I'm a chronic wanderluster. I love experiencing new things in new places and meeting new people, so CS is right up my alley. I spend lots of (but never enough) time doing "outdoorsy stuff". I'm a geek and I get down with classical music and reading and writing and...I don't know, whatever else geeks do? This site says I can include "anything at all" in here, which is probably just asking for trouble. I'll keep it tame, thought: I like bottle-conditioned beers. The end.

PHILOSOPHY

Rise free from care before the dawn, and seek adventures. Let the noon find thee by other lakes, and the night overtake thee everywhere at home. There are no larger fields than these, no worthier games than may here be played. - Thoreau

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Heaps of surfing: I've been "traveling", more or less, for three years. And I'm just about to head home. Much hosting shall then commence :)

Also, I just want to add...that every request I ever send is personal and not copy+paste. However, in the interest of legitimately trying to find a place to stay, I often send a bunch. If I ask to stay with you and you say no, I'll always always try to say thanks for the reply. If you slip through the cracks, I apologize in advance!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Started the whole shabang in Seattle when I stayed on a CSer's yacht while apartment-hunting. Yes, a YACHT. Invited many people into my miniscule studio in Seattle, though usually IRL friends and not via CS.

Surfed my way through the larger cities of Europe and Asia while hitchhiking/camping my way from France to China, bummed around Australia a bit, currently in New Zealand, bound for Hawaii and then home to good ol' Tennessee (where I'll be opening my home wide open to pay forward all the wonderful hospitality shown to me!)

Interests

I'm all up into travel, horses, writing, astronomy, rock climbing, snowboarding, backpacking, secret missions (shh), soccer, runs, road trips, piano, and underwater basket weaving. I've never woven a basket underwater, but it sounds intriguing.

Music, Movies, and Books

My music tastes are too varied to describe; from Beethoven to the Beastie Boys and everything in between, pick a genre and there's bound to be something I enjoy.

Movies:

Top Gun, Ocean's Eleven, Italian Job, Starwars, The Little Mermaid, Office Space, Anchorman, Tombstone, Legends of the Fall, Braveheart, Gladiator, The Count of Monte Cristo, The Horse Whisperer, Man from Snowy River, Shawshank Redemption, Fight Club, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Good Will Hunting...I like lots of these too.

Books:

anything by Ludlum, Faulkner, Henry James, Franz Wisner, Donald Miller, Dr. Seuss, Hemingway, Jeffrey McDaniel, Fitzgerald, Tolstoy, Kipling, T.S. Eliot, Dickinson, Bill Bryson, Pirsig, Sedaris, Krakaeur....list goes on, I love to read.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Rising at 4 AM every morning for a summer and watching the sun rise over the Rockies on horseback.

Hiked a few hundred kilometers through the wildflowers and hospitality of Provence.

Put 30,000 miles on my car in one year. That's a whole lot of road trips, folks.

Begin reading this guy's books, and don't stop til you find yourself inexplicably on an island in Greece.
