Overview
About Me
My name is Rein, which turned out to be difficult to pronounce for Brits and thus changes into 'Rain' whenever I am in London. After my studies in Holland I moved to London, where I have been working with coffee (and a bit with plants) ever since. This city has been an incredible source of interesting people and interesting ideas for me. At the moment I am planning a trip to the US. Trying to find a reason to move to Japan.
In the things that I do I try to keep a positive attitude, and be respectful and open towards everyone everywhere. I like to think that I am conscious of my environmental impact and the ethicality of what I do.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
To listen to interesting people talk and have fun!
Interests
Everything that is green and grows is fascinating. I am interested in farming and growing, from permaculture to hydroponics to your living room plants. I have worked for a time in a hydroponic farm in disused bomb shelter tunnels in London, and have been briefly introduced to growing vegetables in the back garden. So much to learn.
Sports and games. Basketball, frisbee, baseball, football. I'd like to learn skateboarding.
Tasting things. Tea, cheese, wine, beer. Film photography.
Music, Movies, and Books
Nicolas Jaar, Nils Frahm, SFV Acid, Bach cello suites, violin solo pieces, jazz (old - sydney bechet, coleman hawkins), funk, hiphop (the roots, digable planets, the roots), jon kennedy - the corporeal.
Baghavad Gita.
No country for old men, the departed, the revenant, gran torino.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Hitchhiking from Holland to Marseille without really speaking French or in general have any idea of what I was doing. Vive la France. Building a circus tent and breaking it down.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can share everything I know about keeping plants and growing veg. Coffee wisdom without snobbery, there is a crazy body of reading about this black lifejuice. Talking about it is therefore a bit of a rabbit hole, yet I still love to get into that if you are interested! Balance of your feet while playing basketball. Smiling and positive vibes. Dutch pancakes with warm apple.
What I Can Share with Hosts
A great many things!
