About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Above all avoiding the expected making my own way

ABOUT ME

To savor the challenge and promise of the future. I truly believe in the mission of couchsurfing. A world that is couchsurfing is a world at peace. The future is yet to be written and it is ours to tell. I participate to build bridges and create memories that will last a lifetime. To travel not simply to check items out of a guidebook but to learn and grow through the shared experiences of the distant lands. Travel for me is to savor, explore, taste and drink from faraway places.

I worked hard to be employed for a number of years by a company that required me to travel in North America. As a result I have seen 49 out of the 50 states of the United States. My last state will be Hawaii. The experience left me craving more and I'm fortunate to have found couchsurfing. I've met fantastic friends and learned about faraway lands that I had never dreamed of.

To close I leave you with the words of a man much more profound than mine. Words that have touched me since the first time I read the plaque on the entrance portal.

"To all that come to this happy place: welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams, and the hard facts that have created America... with hope that it will be a source of joy and inspiration to all the world." Walt Disney

PHILOSOPHY

It is not possible to understand someone until you walk in their shoes. I believe the same holds true for a country.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My best experiences were with my flatmates in Washington DC. We frequently hosted students attending conferences. I met some amazing friends.

A surefire way to get me to do something is to tell me it can't be done or that it is dangerous. Couchsurfing falls on that list with my family. I'm happy to have shown them how wonderful it is.

Interests

I feel like the list is so long that I could start to bore you. I'm a fat kid at heart in so much that I love food. Especially, if it is homemade. When I saw that many people actually make each other food while couch surfing I was sold. I also love computers and solving problems. I'm great at finding bugs in systems, and processes. A curse most of the time because I see more than I really want to.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Two moments left me awestruck. The first was having an amazing experience in Vancouver Canada. It was my first time outside of the United States. Honestly, the trip could not have been more perfect if it had been planned months in advance. I had no idea what I was doing. Honestly, all I had was my pack and a Greyhound (bus) unlimited travel pass. I was staying at a hostel (did not know about couch surfing) and happened to be relaxing at a Starbucks. I randomly met this great guy there who ended up showing me the entire city. I saw parts of the city and Canada that I never would have found on my own. I imagine that It could be a perfect couchsurfing story but we actually met in real life first. The second experience that left me awestruck was my first time to Europe. I guess I had no idea what to expect. I was instantly blown away by the culture, food, people, products (oh yeah great design is another interest) I mean I could go on but you get the picture.
