ABOUT ME

We met in early 2010 at the University of Cape Town (South Africa). Since that fateful day, we've been encouraging and supporting each other in a variety of amazing projects. From teaching, to studying, to planning projects, travelling the world, and generally finding out more from people about what they really need.

Leen Remmelzwaal (Dutch and English):

I come from an Engineering background, having completed my Masters in 2009. Realizing the value of context I took a year out to reflect on the meaning of the term "international political economy"... sorry to day it's still a bit of a blur. But I'm lecturing now at the University of Cape Town, back in familiar territory, but with a twist. I'm trying to teach Engineers that there is more to education than just formulas. So far they seem to like it.

Kristen Thompson (American):

I moved to South Africa in January 2010 and have been busy with everything from teaching, to writing policy, to writing study guides, to coaching debating, that pure academic research has revealed itself as lacking in practical value on the ground. I'm finishing up my Masters in International Relations, and I'm glad I've pushed through, but its onto greener pastures for both of us next year.

We're heading off to India in December 2011, to explore the culture of other developing and emerging economies like South Africa. South Africa has taught us both so much, but the time has come to move on.

We have hosted 2 couchsurfers in Cape Town and look forward to couchsurfing for the first time in India!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We've surfed in India, Zimbabwe, and Botswana. We love the network and community on CouchSurfing and look forward to having a place big enough to host in the future.
