Über mich
I'm a german philosophy student (don't run away now, I promise I won't be talking about Nietzsche and Buddhism the entire time. Though some quoting must be expected.)
I try this living thing since about 20 years now and I think soon I'll get the hang of it! On the other hand, I was thinking that the last 20 years as well hm...
After a backpacking trip to greeces westcoast, I couldn't think of staying in Germany afterward, at least not permanently. It's insane how small the world can seem before we see it, and how overwhelmingly big after you saw a tiny part of it. Wwoofing (working on an organic farm somewhere in the world) really showed me how small my horizon was. The amazing Basque farmers there (two ex-journalist and truely great florists) taught me more new things and ideas in 3 weeks than I learned in a year at home. And that's what I'm out for now. Understanding the world, writing about other cultures and meeting you guys. Of course everyone has his own ways of thinking, but the more of those u see, the better you will understand your own and the sooner you will really become someone. (You could hear the slightly pretencious philosophy part right there.)
I don't think I can call myself a traveler just yet. It is more than a hobby a way of thinking and living and I am sure there are many many people here more experienced in that, but still, I can't think of anything more fulfilling than... well everything. Traveling is experiencing everything, and experiencing is everything! So of to it!
Couchsurf experiences as in so far:
1) flying with a motorized hangglider over southern Italia and visiting an ancient Roman village with a MMA coach and ex Punksinger
2) drinking beer with a Peruvian Actor and a schaman ceremony master in their apartment in Miraflores Lima
3) spending a week in 'La Molina' in Peru on an inflatable Matress with the most hospitable and friendly person on earth, Luis Alfredo! (If you read this, I think you might be the perfect host). Exploring Limas Chinaquarters, ancienty Catacombs and having a great time altogether. With many tips for traveling the country and anecdotes of his europe journeys. Ps: I'm still sorry that I made you walk 15 Kilometers one day with me, but we both thought it worth the steps in the end!
4) visiting a prison island/bird nesting ground with a girl from Lima and fishing on a traditional peruvian boat with a fisherman afterwards, watching wild seals and pelicans in the callao district
More to come hopefully...
Warum ich bei Couchsurfing bin
Throught wwoofing I learned the beauty of living in foreign cultures and learning from real people and their experience far away from tourist attractions. Both sides of that couchsurf coin are pure bliss: get new viewpoints right in your house/get right in the houses of new viewpoints. Couchsurfing seems like the best way to find out about the world without being a typical 'tourist', and instead sharing someones world for a couple of days. Also, friends. There is nothing quite like making new friends. Nothing.
Interessen
I can't say my hobbies are very defined. Apart from playing theater in my hometown and philosophizing around in university, I want to try out as many things as possible whilst young. Reading, gardening, traveling, kite flying, trying out lucid dreaming or diving for a while. Sometimes more the calm life with boardgame evenings and a overnight hiking trip with friends in the Alps, then again going along with the insane (and honestly inhumane...) bike trips of my best friend (cursed be he), or booking the cheapest flight to the least known places on an instinct. Let's see what's next.
- literature
- theater
- flying
- traveling
- skiing
- journalism
- philosophy
- nature
- diving
- exploring
- lucid dreaming
- creative writing
- hiking in the mountains
Musik, Filme und Bücher
Everything Christoph Bangert ever wrote, classics like Dune, Lord of the Rings, Foundation. Apart from that, a bit of everything, Harry Potter, Name of the wind and on the road, and whatever books u can recommend :)
(Cursed be Rothfuss for not finishing the best book series there is... I am waiting since ten years... I barely live that long). I would complain more if I wasn't a perfectionist as well sometimes and understand the struggle.
Lately I picked up travel diaries like The places in between and I'm shocked at what amazing things these authors have lived through already.
For musics I am a fan of all the classic rock bands of the 70s and 80s with Queen on the top. (Killer queen is the best alarmsound there is), as well as some experimental music. Cosmo Sheldrake would be the best example here, a complete maniac but also a very original and amazing songwriter.
And as a new addition, swing and jazz from the 30s to 40s, the music that makes forces you to dance, either sad or happy.
I don't know how much people here can make of german punkrock, but I have to mention that as well here.
Eine tolle Erfahrung, die ich gemacht habe
Camped in the open on a sandbank-island near Ithaka in greece under the stars - calculated very wrong - unwilling midnight swim when the island stopped existing. Turns out, even greece can get cold if you're soaked at night, but no less pretty for that.
Gotta add my time with 14 other volunteers on a farm in the peruvian jungle here as well, building with traditional leaves and woods, playing football in small villages, learning about a dozen cultures at once and being devoured by mosquitos and bulletants.
Lehren, lernen, teilen
Learning? Everything! I don't think there is a thing that's not worth learning. In terms of teaching, I can always try. I have read and tried a lot in psychology and philosophy during the last years and am always happy to share ideas of the big thinkers as well of things the smartest people in my life taught me so far. Life wisdoms are a little like your passwords, you never quite know which one you need where, and whenever you think you got it right, you have to make a new one. One has to keep learning.
I believe lucid dreaming (it's not spiritual, rather scientific) is a skill everyone should at least have tried out, and am always happy to show first steps. And I have a big list of amazing books people recommended me over the year that Im caring in my head to tell everyone who makes me mistake of asking :)
Was ich mit Gastgebern teilen kann
I think, how the time will be, should be up to the hosts. If you wish for privacy, of course, I'm the guest and it's your home!
If you do couchsurfing in part to meet new people, I'd be glad to take part in everything u'd have planned and some more I bring :). I'd love to find out what life is like for you. In a way, that's exactly what I travel for, to see real new ways of this living thing we all seem to be trying. So couchsurfing is more an ends than a means. Whenever I can help in your household, just ask. I learned italien and spanish cooking and am always happy to serve up, as well as clean up after myself.
Apart from that, let's have fun! Going out, exploring things, meeting new people, or having conversations about the purpose of life or whatever went horribly wrong in past travels haha :) and whenever there is space in my backpack Ill of course bring presents!
