About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Get my awkward response rate up! Been inacive over the lasy years and now back on track!

ABOUT ME

Remco a.k.a. Remus:

-Powerlifter

-Born in The Netherlands in 1986 in a small and boring village called Bleskensgraaf.

-Supporting Feyenoord Rotterdam and FC Dordrecht

-Frequently visiting (irish) pubs and concerts

-Has the worst sense of humor ever

-Doesn't take himself too seriously

-Loves to hear stories from fellow travellers

-Is still trying to make a difference

PHILOSOPHY

-Work like you don't need the money
dance like no one is watching
sing like no one is listening
love like you've never been hurt (Irish saying)

-Growing up in an age where monotony reigns...it's so easy to keep your heart and mind locked away. And it's up to you to rise up...to break away (Modern life is war)

-Be patient and you will finally win, for a soft tongue can break hard bones. (Proverbs 28:13)

-He is richest who is content with the least, for content is the wealth of nature. (Socrates)

-Worthless people live only to eat and drink; people of worth eat and drink only to live. (Socrates)

-As the builders say, the larger stones do not lie well without the lesser. (Plato)

-In the practice of tolerance, one's enemy is the best teacher. (Dalai Lama)

-A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history. (Gandhi)

-I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.
(Nelson Mandela)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Meeting people from Iran, Canada, Finland and India during the meetings in Rotterdam is totally awesome! I love to hear people telling about their country and culture, can't get enough of it! I surfed some couches and hosted some surfers and I enjoyed it from the beginning untill the end! This project really is an added value to my life!

Music:
All kinds of music actually. I usually listen to post-hardcore/metalcore (noisy music). But I love "pubmusic" aswell or good old Frank Sinatra. My favourite artist though is without any doubt Johnny Cash. Try to collect as much of his old records as possible, so I guess that basically all music that is filled with emotion can be found in my collection.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

1)Volunteering in a buddhist monastry. I've worked there with Hiv/aids infected people who were in a terminal phase. My mission was to help them in their dayly routine,to cheer them up and to talk about things that kept them busy
2) Swimming with whalesharks in Mozambique, the biggest fish species in the world
3)Bungeejumping in Switserland, the "golden eye" bungeejump, highest and most scaring one in the world

Teach, Learn, Share

Ofcourse i'd be glad to help you learning your first words in Dutch. If you need some explanation for the dutch public transport system, the political situation, the dutch history, the weird habits we have, and so on, feel free to ask and I'd be happy to tell you about it. I'm interested in politics, filosophy, religion, movies, music and you ofcourse :-)
