About Me

CURRENT MISSION:
climb rocks, meet great people, explore new place in 2015

I'D LOVE TO ACCEPT GUESTS, BUT UNTIL FALL 2015 I'M TRAVELING AND ON THE ROAD!

I grew up in New Orleans, Louisiana and later Taos, New Mexico in a family of 7. We lived for several years in Dakar, Senegal, and traveled in Europe and South America. I studied at the United World College of the Adriatic for 2 years before University, and attended Dartmouth College in New Hampshire for my BA. After 5 years living in New Hampshire (I stayed after graduating and worked as a chef and teaching assistant for the university) I decided to travel abroad before starting grad school in Fall 2015. I am mostly in Southeast Asia (Thailand, Vietnam) and New Zealand (Auckland) Jan-March, and will be hiking across Spain with my girlfriend in April and May.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I love to visit a place with friendly locals who know it well, and I'm traveling on a budget!

Interests

I'm very passionate about rock climbing. I spend most of my free time climbing things, and have had a great time exploring places through local crags and the climbing community.

I love cooking and everything related to food. This is also my academic interest, as I will study food sovereignty and development as a masters student in Human Geography.

Music, Movies, and Books

Josh Garrels... and always the Chili Peppers

...I'm currently reading Jitterbug Perfume, which I'm enjoying.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I rode a bicycle from Colorado to Washington DC (2,500 miles) in 2009, and have done a few other great bicycle touring trips since then. My favorite way to travel!

Teach, Learn, Share

Food, music, stories, local knowledge (culture and history)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook and have done so professionally for several years. I'm always happy to get in a kitchen and spend a few hours making a big meal for however many people are around.

I love to play music and jam on pretty much any instrument with strings (or my voice), although I'm a bit out of practice.

I can fix bikes, build houses, help with landscaping, work on diesel cars - all with a positive attitude and hopefully some humor. I'm happy to help out with projects for a couple hours if I'm staying some nights.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Austria, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Lesotho, Malaysia, Mexico, Namibia, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, Senegal, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Swaziland, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States, Viet Nam, Wales
