About Me
Hey! I'm Sergei, 25 yo, study cryptography, coding and general maths at the university. I know, that sounds quite boring to most people but there's interesting stuff as well ;) I study in Helsinki. How can I describe myself?.. Just a nice guy :) Friendly, kind-hearted and smart enough. That's what my friends said when I asked them. I'm fond of travelling and visiting new places. And now I just enjoy the very best years of my life! :D
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
4.5 years ago I answered myself: "Why am I wasting my free time in my home city? It's cool and everything but there's bunch of interesting stuff to see. Start travelling, dude! :)" Maybe those phrases in my mind were not exactly the same but you got the point. I've visited a dozen countries since then and organised it all by myself - which I'm proud of! And of course - I used CS every time I could! Making new friends, having great time with them, sharing our cultures - that's how I participate.
All the CS experience of mine was A-MA-ZING. I travelled alone and with friends, spent from one night to almost a week with hosts - but I always had a wonderful time. I'm quite lucky, probably, but each person I've met through CS was absolutely great!
And right now, when you're reading this, I'm already planning my new trip - to discover new places, to meet new friends and to make my CS experience even better.
Interests
Travelling, studying new languages, trying different cuisines, getting to know other cultures. I love big cities (maybe not superhuge but big) and like being outdoors, discovering nature at the same time. I like walking, interesting architecture, singing and a cup of black tea (yes, Russians love tea). I love Scandinavia and I'm very glad I live in the Nordic country now. I'm not very good sportsman myself (did some athletics at school though), but I absolutely adore watching sports, any kinds of it :) So that's just what I can think of right now - but there's a lot more. I'll write it down here later ;)

Music, Movies, and Books
Arthur Conan Doyle, Stieg Larsson, Agatha Christie, Jo Nesbø, Boris Akunin, Sergei Lukyanenko are my favourite authors as for now. You see, I like detective stories.
My favourite film is The King's Speech. It definitely deserved its Oscars. I also love watching series: House M.D., Scrubs, Skins, Sherlock, Bron, Forbrydelsen (The Crime) are in my Top list I think.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I helped to organise English courses in the Kaliningrad orphanage - and every meeting with kids was... amazing. Had never thought I would've enjoyed that volunteering so much.
There's no "One amazing thing I've seen" field - but if there were I'd write that I saw Northern lights in Helsinki last March! It was awesome!!
Teach, Learn, Share
A friend of mine once called me "a linguistic maniac" :) That's true, I'll definitely be interested in your language - I'm always eager to learn at least some words. And if you want some lessons of Russian - do not hesitate, I'll be ready to help you! Also I always wonder what people think of Russia, these little "stereotypes" that form our way of thinking. I'm ready to share my thoughts and ideas as well. Oh, although I can't play any musical instrument I can teach you some Russian song - folk or pop, childish or serious one ;)
