About Me

Half Aussie, Half Brit. Quit my job and left Australia to travel the world for a few years, currently living in Berlin. 60 countries covered, a hell of a lot more still to visit.

I tell my friends I'm travelling to find myself but all I'm really doing is drinking local homebrew alcohol, learning how to swear at taxi drivers in every country I go to and making a lot of awesome friends. Something about expanding my world view, exploring hidden parts of the planet and breaking free of the monotony of daily life back home as well I guess.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to experience what places are like from different perpectives; locals and travellers alike. Too often all I see of a city are the tourist traps and I don't get a good idea of what it's like to live, work and play somewhere. Travelling for me is all about the people you meet not just the pretty things you see along the way. (I like to see the pretty things as well)

Interests

Getting stuck into local culture. I want to eat your food, drink your alcohol, talk about the political issues that affect you, listen to your music, see your nature, do whatever you do for fun in your free time. Scuba Diving, Skiing. Languages. Mainly eating and drinking though.

I'm up for anything I can get involved with. Live music, nature, bar hopping, local cinema, modern art, adventure sports, deep conversations about the meaning of life until daylight. Bring it on.

I love to learn local languages, which usually means when I leave a country I can say hello, count to ten, tell you you're beautiful and swear like a sailor.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music - I can't live without music, I listen to anything I can get my hands on. Just depends on my mood.

Movies - Any and all. I love Studio Ghibli. Ex projectionist, studied film for a while before I gave into the lure of a "real" job

Books - Haruki Murakami, David Mitchell, Terry Pratchett

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Three day hike up Mt Rinjani, 3.7km high active volcano in Lombok, Indonesia

Wreck diving through Japanese WW2 warships in the Coron, Philippines

Bungy jumping in Queensland, Australia

Danced with 50,000 North Koreans as part of their Liberation Day celebrations in Pyongyang!

Survived 35+ hour train rides in India and China

Spent three months in India without getting sick! (This is the most impressive one)

Plenty more to share if we meet.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Good chat and friendly vibes. I'm always ready for a laugh, a drink, food and adventure. If we go out you can expect some terrible white guy dancing, if we go exploring you can expect me to take the occasional guilty selfie and to say "Sure we can make the last bus back, let's just go see what's around that corner first"
