About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Save travel $$$ for a FAB couchsurfing expedition of my very own...and host in the mean time.

ABOUT ME

I love to laugh. It is really important to me to see the amusing side of life. I am a "the glass is half funny" kind of person. I work hard (probably too hard) - but I play hard when I make the time...and I make the time as often as possible. Travel is my favorite way to play. There are very few places I don't want to go...so the list attached is greviously incomplete. I just listed places that are probably most forefront in my mind for free associated reasons. I love Long Beach, California and it would be my pleasure to show ya'll around.

PHILOSOPHY

Probably most simply broken down into several (overused)quotations:
"Work hard - play hard" (an unknown many)
"Life isn't about finding yourself; it is about creating yourself." (unknown)
"Be the change you wish to see in the world." (Ghandi)
"The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan." (unknown - to me, at least)
"Live, Laugh, Love, Learn, Lgebra" :-))))) Ahhhh, math humor...

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I am just doing some hosting for the moment...
:-)))))))))))

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have become part of the CS culture in a very short time! I have to say that I am a true believer in the brilliance of the philosophy. I bought a two bedroom condo with the plan to be able to invite the people I meet along my travels to Long Beach. While I have had several people stay, it didn't get near enough use! :-) Then I heard about couch surfing from a friend at work (her son uses it)...he had loads of good things to say and they all seemed to appeal to my personality...so I jumped right in! To date, I have had great experiences with everyone I have hosted, Couchsurfing "shin-dug" with, and traded emails with through this site!

Interests

I love people, geology, travel, food, reading, camping, new experiences, stimulating converstation, and a bunch of stuff I don't even know about yet...

Music, Movies, and Books

I am an insatiable reader and my interests run the gamut. I suppose I am most amused by historical fiction because I love the "what if"- factor.
Currently Favorite Books: Aztec, Harry Potter, and Kite Runner (all over the map - I know)
I love bits from all musical genres, but reggae is probably my overall favorite...and I love world music for mood.
I like films across the board, but I have a sort of philosophy about them: I love to see serious/heavy duty poignient films once - and funny/silly films over and over...so I own all the silly favorites and I have seen all things serious. And a curve-ball: I really like the old Bollywood stuff.
Favorite Films: #1 is easy - CRASH...
After that, it gets tough: Secondhand Lions, Mi Familia, Lord of War, Amistad...I can't list the comedies because there simply is no end.
:-)))))))

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I went to Cuba legally (an unusual thing for an American). It was, to date, probably the most interesting trip I have taken.
In the doofy department, I am a impressive clutz. Remind me to tell you the story of how I fell in the Riverwalk in San Antonio... :-)

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to derive the quadratic formula...interested? Woohoo!
:-)))))))))))))))))
Special "shout-out" to teachers: I am more than happy to give you a tour of the High School where I teach. I love to see schools when I travel, so I want to specifically extend the invitation. I teach at a large public urban school (4500 students and 250 faculty and staff). It is something to see, for sure! :-)))))
