About Me

My name is SI-SYUAN HUANG. In Chinese, "Si" means imperial jade seal, "Syuan" is the name of an ancient emperor of China, and "Huang" is yellow which is an imperial color in the past. I don't know why my father gave me this name. These words are very difficult to be written in Chinese. And I guess that's the reason why I couldn't get great scores on exams when I was a student because I spent too much time on writing my name.

A fortune teller of my student's mother who is incredibly rich ( It seems like each rich person has to own their personal fortune teller in Taiwan.) used to tell me the name SI-SYUAN HUANG would made my life miserable and suggested that I should change my name. Well...I think my life is OK so far...

[Eat Pray Love]
I'm from Taiwan. I'm a Taiwanese. We do not like people call us Chinese. But I think they are funny for their way to translating foreign movies' names. Eat Pray Love sounds like an AV idol's name in Chinese. Anyway, I love to eat, especially the local food. Maybe it's the main reason why I want to try couch surfing. There is always a gap between the true stories and the words in travel books.

[Who Doesn't Love Music?]
Even my dog, Kuro( in Japanese, Kuro means black), loves music. He loves Gang Nang Style which is an indoctrinating Korean song by PSY.
I have my own Period of listening to music. I can keep listening to "I Dream A Dream" for a whole week just because I watched the movie Les Miserables, even though I barely watch this kind of stuff. But most of the time, I love the songs that can relate me to some specific places or events. The Goo Goo Doll's "Slides" always reminds me of the days in Sydney, the days I ran away from Taiwan. Damien Rice's "The Blower's Daughter" makes me think of the nights in Queenstown in New Zealand. Only stars, beers and new friends from different countries. I'm currently looking for the song for the trip to Israel and Jordan. Maybe John Legend's song Each Day Gets Better.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I used to travel to Tokyo in 2012. I was a tourist only looking for tourist attractions.
I used to travel to Sydney in 2013. I was kind of a traveller searching for the chance to talk to the people on different lands.
This December, I will travel to Israel. There is a lot of tourist attractions with stories in Jerusalem. And I think the best way to know the story is to talk to the people. I would like to understand this country through the words from people who live there. Hope that I can be a traverist(traveller+tourist).

Music, Movies, and Books

I really enjoy Dan Brown's work.
And I watch the movie "Angels and Demons" for like a hundred times.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

When I was in New Zealand, I helped my friend's family to build a house nearby the sea. When we finish the work, I enjoyed the moment we sat on the deck we built to watch the sea and I just can't forget the sky full of stars.

Teach, Learn, Share

Though Chinese is not my major, I still can teach some Chinese to the language addicts! Learning languages is supposed to be used to communicate with people. I found the impetus of learning languages from meeting new people of different countries!

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea

Countries I’ve Lived In

Taiwan
