About Me
ABOUT ME
I’m your typical glasses-wearing, girl-next-door (who also happens to bake really well, is kind, optimistic, altruistic, and a mix of creative and practical).
I've just left my full-time gig in order to spend about 5-6 months traveling (nationally and internationally). Excited to meet new people and explore new parts of the country/world.
PHILOSOPHY
In the words of others,
"Let us read, and let us dance; These two amusements will never do any harm to the world." --Voltaire
"I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim of murmur, or think at some point, 'If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.'" --Kurt Vonnegut
"If you are a dreamer come in, If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar, a hope-r, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer... If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire. For we have some flax golden tales to spin. Come in. Come in." --Shel Silverstein
"I'm not sure what I'll do, but- well, I want to go places and see people. I want my mind to grow. I want to live where things happen on a big scale." --F Scott Fitzgerald
"...people can change anything they want to, and that means everything in the world." --Joe Strummer
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm planning on starting the adventure by taking a loop through the United States, exploring the cities, people and pockets of culture along the way. I'll also be spending a few months visiting some printmakers in Europe, as well as an artist-in-residency in the Fall... It's been a joy to see where the roads lead!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
All positive so far! It's truly the best way to see a city through someone else's eyes. Love it.
Interests
I like: good music, puns, letterpress, cooking with friends, Ira Glass’ voice, and all the regular Portland-y things (brunching, hiking, biking, reading, writing, crafting, and hanging out at bars/restaurants)
Music, Movies, and Books
A few of my favorites from each category:
BOOKS: To Kill a Mockingbird, Harry Potter, The War of Art, The Outsiders are some of my favorites. Currently making my way through Studs Terkle's collection of profiles, “Working.” Neil Gaiman’s American Gods is next on my ever-growing list.
MOVIES: The Princess Bride is an all-time favorite. I also enjoy most of the Wes Anderson films. Most things by The Coen brothers. Many of Jim Jarmusch’s. Sofia Coppola, Quentin Tarantino, John Hughes, Rian Johnson, Christopher Nolan, Cameron Crowe, David Fincher, Christopher Guest…
SHOWS: True Detective, The Walking Dead, Parks and Rec, Veronica Mars, Sherlock, The Wire, Arrested Development, Mad Men, New Girl, the Stephen Moffat episodes of Doctor Who…
MUSIC: Tom Waits, Bob Dylan, Mark Knopfler, Lucinda Williams, the Beatles, old U2, Talking Heads, Weezer, the Hold Steady, Temples, Foxygen, Courtney Barnett, Janelle Monae, Dessa, Caroline Smith, Amanda Palmer, Bon Iver, St. Vincent, Olafur Arnalds, Neko Case, Sharon van Etten, Rhye, the xx, the National, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, The White Stripes, Doves, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Sharon Jones, Stevie Wonder… soul music. (etc… too many to truly list out)
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm an artist, and would happily share perspectives about design, letterpress, and papermaking.
