Overview
About Me
I’m a South African temporarily stuck in America, working in Dallas. It seems impossible to figure out what I love most: watching Netflix Spain shows in French, doing little maths problems (kinda prepping for the GRE), playing racquetball with a crew of 60 yr olds, getting tea at my favourite coffee shop and pretending to work but actually write short stories, or meeting people (and drinking good dark beers). So many people are scared of strangers and they miss out on the best things in life. I genuinely believe the opportunities I’ve jumped at - almost a tad too recklessly - have turned out to be the best because of the amazing, spontaneous, curious folk I got to meet (never mind the fun things to do). My entire family is in South Africa so I truly crave meaningful connections, in person, with others. It reminds me what I’m doing abroad. I’m here working after completing my undergrad in mechanical engineering and economics up in the North East. Besides that I’ve spent a semester in Edinburgh and a summer in Paris. I’ve also worked on an urban farm and sold produce every Saturday at a farmer’s market. To keep up my love for the arts, I worked too at the School of Music so I could hear professionals perform, as well as at the School of Art and working as house manager for many theatre productions. If any of this sounds vaguely interesting, I hope we get to meet someday.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
