About Me

Last year I graduated from University in Adelaide and I decided to see as much of the world as I can and consciously experience as much of the world as I can before returning home to Australia. So I moved to Banff, Alberta in search of adventure! I am an avid snowboarder and explorer who adores the tranquillity of nature, the haste of big cities and everything in between. It is that variety that the world has to offer which attracts me so and keeps my fire for new experiences burning.

Since I have left university 2 years ago all I have done is travel as much as I could. At first, it was just a way of avoiding going into the "9 to 5" working world, but it has become so much more than that. I've realised that there is a lot to see and do in this world we share and I plan to see as much of it as I can, while I can. I pride myself on my openness to new places and people, a quality which has only led me to amazing people and experiences. I wish to keep expanding my new found openness by meeting as many like-minded people as I can, and the couch surfing community seems to be the place for it.

I've not participated in the couch surfing community much (only once to be exact, but in honesty I've only joined this community properly since entering the USA 2 months ago) however my limited exposure to it has made me want to experience as much of this community of people as I can!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My experience with travelling so far has taught me that no one knows a place quite like a local. Locals can teach and show you how a place REALLY works, not just take you to the "Lonely Planet's" top 10 tourist hotspots. I want to see the intimacies of the places I visit, not just what Google says is fun. Also from my one experience couch surfing so far I have learnt that this community has the potential to be one of the warmest, most inviting communities out there and I want to experince as much of it as I can. As I have been camping in national parks and forests for my trip thus far I've not had a good chance to participate with the couch surfing community yet on my travels, but I want that to change. The short yet valuable time I've spent on the road has opened my eyes and my mind to how accepting the world can be, and from what I understand the couch surfing community is the place for me. So, at this point of my travels I will be spending much more time around the large cities of America and would love someone to host me and teach me all about them. I'm not asking for a great deal of anyone's time, just what they can / want to offer me. I am also travelling with my friend Brett now, so I hope that does not complicate things for people.

Interests

Too many to list properly, but: Snowboarding, photography, hiking, animals, listening to music, and meeting new people.
My experiences travelling have really made appreciate the art of photography and the richness wth which it allows me to 'paint' my memories. Snowboarding is one of the greatest things I have allowed myself to do because it combines my innate lust for adventure and thrills with my love and appreciation for what is natural in this world. T have found an activity that can be both an adrenaline rush and meditative at the same time has helped me grow in ways which I cannot describe properly in a CS "interests" profile, but I would gladly sit down and explain it to anyone.
Apart from those two main interests of mine, I am really just interested in living my life to the fullest, and experiencing everything people and the world has to offer.

Music, Movies, and Books

As far as my taste in music is concerned, Hip-Hop is the all time favourite, but my taste in music ranges from that to Jazz, Funk, Soul, Blues, to Classic Rock to contemporary House music. I'll appreciate a person playing any type of music as long as I can hear their passion for it.

My interest in books is similar to my musical interests in that it varies a lot. Right now I'm reading a Friedrich Nietzsche book called "Beyond Good & Evil", but I just finished reading "How Yoga Works" which is a remarkably different type of text which addresses the attitudes that people use to carry themselves through life, and how important they are for your experience and time here.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swam around waterfalls in Thailand. My brother and I trekked up this massive hill for half about 4/5 hours after a local told us about a secret swimming spot. It was right at the top of a hill which sat at the foot of a mountain, and completely surrounded by trees and bushes, but it was magical once we got there. It was like this little lake at the end of a river, and there was this amazing waterfall at one end. It was gentle enough to swim close to, and swimming underneath a natural waterfall was easily one of the most amazing things I've done so far!

Teach, Learn, Share

I don't mind teaching someone how to snowboard if they want! I can play the drums and I'm pretty good with fixing computers so maybe I can help out there! I would like to think I've got a bit to offer so don't hesitate to ask.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A bunch of things! I love sharing my taste in music and I LOVE hearing what other people bring to the table. Best way to find out is to ask me I guess!

I've been attending the School of Life for about 24 years now, so I definitely can share a lesson or two with people.
