ABOUT ME

We love to explore and learn. I enjoy photographing people in their cultural environments and make furniture and cabinets for fun. Janee is a gourmet cook and has run a famous mansion B&B in Duluth near where she was raised and spent most of her life. She also spent 20 years in the antique business. We have a wonderful home and property for entertaining and live down the street from the ocean. We enjoy people and love to share a now empty home with people. Food and wine are a passion and a fun part of traveling is to take cooking lessons in new cultures. We love all forms of music but especially acoustic music. We enjoy cooking and the large kitchen is a wonderful place to share memories and learn about each other while we cook. We have a small vineyard, lavender field, extensive flower, rose, and vegetable gardens and an orchard. We enjoy brewing beer and making wine. We also keep beehives.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We have temporarily stopped hosting on Couchsurfing. Our email is flooded each day with people who are desperate for free or cheap housing as they have come to work in the region before finding housing. We don't have time in our busy schedules to respond to so many requests of this type which are not part of the Couchsurfing culture of travelers exchanging interests and different cultures that motivated us to join many years ago. We love to host international guests and students and anyone who wants to travel. My nieces and nephews live and travel around the world and convinced me in 2007 that couch surfing is fun (and it is!) We have several kayaks and bicycles and love to take guests in the bays and around the ocean shoreline and hike in the local mountains. We enjoy couchsurfing with new hosts as we travel around the world. Best part of CS is that I met Janee in 2008 and 2009 when I hosted her. In 2013 she returned for another visit with her mother and the timing in our lives was right and in 2014 joined me to begin a life together.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have hosted many people and couchsurfed in China, Cambodia, France, Australia, Spain, South Africa, and Germany among other places. Plan to couch surf and enjoy meeting more locals in Europe and Africa. Met the amazing woman I spend my life with when I hosted her through CS.

Intereses

Helping with medical and education efforts in Cambodia and Africa. Music (acoustical and classic), woodworking and furniture design, horses, kayaking and sailing, people of all shapes, sizes and interesting character. Cooking and wine are a large part of our life and we love to share with our guests. We have a small brewery and wine making operation at the house as well as a vineyard, orchard, lavender field, extensive flower, rose, and vegetable gardens and beehives.

I am still alive after an early life of reckless behavior, isn't that enough? At age 60 I spent a month around Mt Everest in Nepal with Sherpa friends who are famous guides on the mountain.
