Overview
About Me
I came to Machynlleth to do a Masters in 2007 and never left, so be warned.
I've been involved in lots of social movements, so I guess I'm an activist. I work for a great charity doing graphic design, research and training.
I love reading (especially sci-fi), night walks in cities, talking about culture and politics, outdoors swimming, puns, designing things, playing board games or frisbee and dancing to disco.
I'm working to be a better person, a better white straight male ally / general non-idiot.
Obsessed with the microbiome, everything that calls us humans 'home'. I can talk about this for a long time.
I am good at cooking and cleaning, I will happily help with this if you host me.
If you like XKCD or bell hooks we will definitely get along.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Back from a long trip meeting CS'ers and being hosted a few times, keen to give back to the community. I've hosted a lot under an old shared profile of the Cooperative House I live in.

Music, Movies, and Books
Music—I blame my Dad for getting me into a load of cheesy old electro synth, like OMD, Human League, Ultravox, Frankie Goes to Hollywood etc. I love modern classical like Nils Farhm, Philip Glass, Ludovico Einaudi, Jóhann Jóhannsson etc. And then Northern Soul and Motown, mmmm. Oh, and Disco, of course Disco.
Books—Lots of sci-fi, Ursula Le Guin, Octavia Butler, Asimov, NK Jemisin, KSR, Nnedi Okorafor, Nalo Hopkinson, Bradbury etc.
Podcasts—All the Podcast, oh jeez, particularly love RadioLab, Fearless Rebelle, Love + Radio and 99% Invisible.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Just recently I was sitting in the Japanese Museum of Modern Art when the Emperor of Japan and the Swedish Royal Family walked in and blocked my view of a lovely screen by Gyokudo. Maybe that's not amazing, just rude.
Teach, Learn, Share
I can teach English (badly), graphic/web design (goodly) and cooking British soups and stews (like a boss).
I would love to learn more about the culture, language and politics of your country if you're from outside the UK...
