About Me

I am on a 26 month 4 part adventure!
The first part is backpacking Europe, Asia, Australia, and parts of Africa (some of it with a friend of mine from the States).
The second part is hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. It's a 2650 mile hike from Mexico to Canada along the Sierra Nevada and Cascade mountains in California, Oregon, and Washington.
The third part will be snowboarding and elevation training in preparation for the fourth. This parts location is still to be determined.
And the fourth part will be an attempt on summiting Mt. Everest!

A deeper look into who I am reveals that I am quite the paradox. I consider myself to be a conservative person with mostly liberal ideals. I think this is mainly from having an upbringing that taught me one way and then having my own experiences through traveling that challenged those ideals and opened my mind to a world of people who are all different. I love to have a good time and am sometimes over the top, but other times I just like to lay around and be lazy (like today when I am filling out this profile). I have been told that I am controlling of situations, stubborn, and have a need to be in charge (which I can't disagree with) but I secretly wish that someone else would make all of my decisions for me. I am a picky eater and don't usually like to try new foods. I have to force myself to eat healthy, otherwise I would veg out on junk food all day. And I snore, though it doesn't seem to be too bad unless I have been drinking or am sleeping seated in a car. I hope I didn't just talk myself out of a couch hahaha!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing because I am very interested in seeing how locals live. I love the different people I meet from all over the world while traveling, but I feel that you can learn so much more about a culture or city from the people who live in it every day. There is something I find very interesting about walking into someone's home and analyzing their collection of things and decorations. It really tells a story about that person and where they come from. I also love to hear their stories. A lot of hosts are travelers themselves and their advice in invaluable.

Interests

Apart from traveling, my top interests have to do with mountains and buildings. I love to be in nature and especially in the mountains. I have a need to climb everything which is where mountaineering and rock climbing come into play. There is something about standing on top of a rock or mountain that you just climbed that really makes you feel like you've accomplished something. And where can I start about buildings? I love the architecture of buildings but I am more interested in buildings under construction and abandoned buildings. I feel like buildings under construction have a story that is still being written and abandoned buildings have a story that has long since been told. I try to picture how people lived and worked in buildings that are now just trashed and rubble, and I love to get as high as I can in skyscrapers and look at how small everything is below me. I guess you could say that I like the biggest and the best! (Typical American 🙄)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: You can take a man out of the country, but you can't take the country out of a man. And yes I am talking about country music! I just have a connection to old pickup trucks, beer, and back roads. It's what makes me happy and I won't apologize for it hahaha! But to confuse you even more, I'm also a fan of classical music.

Movies: I will honestly watch about any movie. My top three favorite actors are: Tom Hanks, Will Ferrell, and Nicolas Cage. My favorite movie is Apocalypse Now and oddly enough it is my inspiration to travel to SE Asia. I am not a huge fan of the superhero movies, but I will watch them.

Books: I wish I could say that I read a lot, but I won't lie. When I do read I usually read about mountaineering adventures. My favorite books are written by Jon Krakauer: "Into Thin Air" and "Into The Wild".

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The one thing that amazes me that I've done is having the courage to uproot myself out of my comfort zone time and time again. I made a rule for myself that I won't live in the same place or work the same job for longer than five years. This forces me to experience new places and careers quite often. It can be scary and overwhelming at times, and there have been many times I have thought about going back to the past, but I know that he past will never be the same now so I might as well keep going forward. Even while traveling I have found myself in places I don't enjoy, but I try to tell myself that there is a lesson to be learned there.

What I Can Share with Hosts

What I can share with my hosts is great conversation and possibly a differing opinion and outlook on the world. My ideals and opinions aren't usually what you would expect. I love to have deep discussions about controversial topics and I am always interested in others views. As an American, many people are very interested in which side of an issue I stand on, but I don't usually like to state my stance right away. I'd rather give you the chance to guess first and and then discuss.
