About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm 25 years old. Australian by birth, though my accent isn't as thick as it used to be. Homogenised from the travels.
My friends would tell you that I am a big kid at heart; I love the simple things in life. Good company, good food, maybe a few drinks if it's called for and Ice-cream. It's always a good time for ice-cream.
I'd like to think of myself as a reliable person, good for a laugh and generally just a good sort.
If it matters, I do not snore and through years of experience I've learned to sleep just about anywhere!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At the moment I am looking to surf a few couches on my way across the U.S.A. As I've fallen for the idea of CS, I fully intend to Host as soon as I've settled down in this semi-nomadic life I lead.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've yet to have a CS experience! Perhaps you could be my first? You know what they say? Nobody forgets their first.

Interests

My interests are varied:
Travel: I love to travel, to talk about travel, to hear about travel, read and research travel.
Sports/Outdoors: I am a fan of almost any sport, be it taking part (or trying to) or watching it on TV. I love to hike, cycle and just generally spend time outdoors.
Relaxing: I'm also equally interested in just chilling out at home and watching a new DVD or just laze the day away.
Cooking: I love to cook, while I started as an recipe follower as I gained some level of confidence I began to improvise and have a few reliable dishes up my sleeve.

Music, Movies, and Books

Movies: I am a bit of a movie buff, I love to go to the Cinema when I can. (Fave movie: The Usual Suspects).
Music: I have an eclectic taste in music but my passion is in the Blues. I especially like Harmonica Blues.
Books: I am a voracious reader in almost all genres. I don't think I could name a favourite book of all time. Too many to choose from.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In my travels I have seen some amazing sites, met some incredidble people and had some fantastic times. Perhaps the one thing that particularly stands out to me is; back in 2005 when I was doing some volunteer work on Koh Phi Phi after the Tsunami. My volunteer group came across this small hut that had recently been built, out the front of the hut was an old Thai man harvesting coconuts. Having seen our group (of about 8 or so) he invited us to sit with him and share in his coconuts (at this point his only source of food), we tried to decline politely but as soon as he heard what we were doing on his island (cleaning streets piled roof high with debris) he insisted we stay.
Knowing that he would have to trek for a while to find more food for himself and his wife (7th btw) I was amazed and moved by his generosity. This mans world had been destroyed, he built his new hut in the hills despite him being a fisherman by trade and living by the ocean his entire life. Kindness in incredible adversity, I've not seen anything like it before or since.
