About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To visit all regions of the United States, enthusiastically.

ABOUT ME

I'm Ian. I love good food and good people. I'm traditionally liberal and big-hearted, but love crass jokes. I listen to NPR and blog about pizza. I can get Aaron Sorkin-level verbose. I like giving gifts. I'm an extrovert.

Although I've settled into a career and homeownership and all those things that carry mixed feelings, I'll always have the travel jones.

I've been known to sing and dance spontaneously.

PHILOSOPHY

Treat others as you'd like to be treated.
God is everywhere, in everyone. We are all gods and in touch with the divine every day.
Always forward, never back.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surf whenever I can get away, but my hosting is limited right now by how crowded my house is.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My first CS trip was to Minneapolis in 2011. I had a great host and a fantastic surfing experience, connecting with other hosts and other surfers who were in town. I've since traveled with some of those folks and hosted them, as well as a few other folks. Life is so much better with couchsurfing.

Interests

Playing and watching basketball, hiking.
Board games.
Storytelling.
Live theater and improv.
Watching and talking about movies.
Beer. Brewery tour? Yes, please. Give me hops.

Music, Movies, and Books

Zoolander, The Princess Bride, 28 Days Later, The Shawshank Redemption, In Bruges, most other movies.

All music.

All books.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Everything is amazing in small ways. I consider mountains, oceans, forests, birdwatching, intimate connections forming over the span of two beers, grace in the face of adversity, and cheese to all be amazing things.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you technical writing or Visual Basic programming. I know a lot about basketball and physical fitness; I've worked as a personal fitness instructor. Mostly, though, I just tell stories. Ask me anything!

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Puerto Rico, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In
