Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
I'm hitch-hiking from Sydney to Darwin then island hopping to Java.
ABOUT ME
I'm trying to have a minimal environmental impact so I thought it would be a good idea to go overland (and sea!) from Sydney to Java. I'm an English teacher and I plan to find a job somewhere along the road. But for now I'm just enjoying being completely free!
PHILOSOPHY
Yoda is right: "Do or, do not. There is no try."
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm on the road for the next few months at least so hopefully I can entertain other CSers with a few tales from the road.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
Been to CS parties in Istanbul and surfed in Cairo for quite a while before and after the Arab spring. I've hitch-hiked quite a lot in Europe and been invited into many homes while cycling through the Middle East. Don't believe the scaremongers, people are good!
Interests
I love cycling and I've been a whitewater kayaker in previous years (I'm a bit rusty now). Love being in the mountains. I find language fascinating but I only speak English, so on this trip I hope to pick up another language.

Music, Movies, and Books
'Eyeless in Gaza' by Aldous Huxley is a fantastic book. He knew a thing or two about living. Hemmingway's 'For Whom the Bell Tolls' is also a cracking read.
Music-wise: Beethoven piano sonatas, reggae, breakcore, lo-fi guitar music.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Cycled quite a long way from my front door (Cambridge to Cairo).
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm an English teacher so I can help you out with those grammar problems that have been keeping you up at night. Something that might be more useful is that I can help you fix your bike.
