PHILOSOPHY
"The solace of such work as I do with brain and heart lies in this: that only there, in the silences of the painter or the writer can reality be reordered, reworked and made to show its significant side...For us artists there waits the joyous compromise through art with all that wounded or defeated us in daily life; in this way, not to evade destiny as the ordinary people try to do, but to fulfil it to its true potential--the imagination..."

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
We discovered Obama had won the election while eating Magnolia cupcakes in downtown New York. Instead of going to bed, as might have been the sensible thing to do, we ventured up to Times Square to watch his acceptance speech. And for the first, and what I imagine might be the only, time in my life I watched as Times Square stood completely silent, reverent, watching in awe as our forty-fourth president claim his country.
