ABOUT ME

I am a mature student. I like hosting others and have had people from all over the world stay, both through HC and also hitchhikers that I have given lifts too that have ended up staying.

PHILOSOPHY

A world in which competition can coexist with a decent minimum standard of living, so that everyone can flourish. Smaller wealth gaps between the rich and poor. No privately made money. Evidence based decisions made with inclusive values to guide sane policy making. Oh and free microscopes for everybody..........

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have been on HC for many years. Met and stayed with many people while doing my RTW, and before and since I have also hosted a good number of people.
I do this for a number of reasons:
1) To make it easier for others to travel and to save them money.
2) To give travellers a local experience and local knowledge, including relevant history/politics (if interested).
3) To meet new and interesting people when I am not able to travel myself.
4) To see my area through the fresh eyes of visitors.
5) To promote great international relations on a personal level.

If your profile doesn't say much about you or you haven't hosted others (newbies excepted) or your response rate to others' messages is low, then the chances are I'll decline your request.
Also please remember that hosts make time for you so don't be unreliable and change your plans at the last minute, unless there is an emergency. If you confirm a month before your proposed date and then change plans the day before you are due to stay that is rude. Consider that the host may have rearranged their schedule for you.
Please also be aware of what is and isn't polite within the host's home. In my home you can help yourself to tea and coffee whenever you like, you can cook your own food at any time other than my dinner time (as long as you clean up afterwards). Please don't help yourself to my food or touch anything else without permission.

Interests

biology, physics, politics, economics, the countryside, bushcraft, some history, sharing passions- hosting others and learning about their lives and cultures, travel (although not had the cash/time to do for a long while) and many other things. I am eternally curious.

Stood 15 feet from 3 brown bears in Katmai in Alaska- one of two ultimate life moments.
Midnight walk in the Amazon.
Sunrise at Macchu Picchu.
Impromptu English lesson to monks at Angkor.
Deck chair and beer, watching the sun set, on a slow boat up the Mekong.
