About Me

I feel like this is pretty well covered with the rest of the profile, but I guess something that isn't mentioned elsewhere is that I consider myself a bit of minimalist that places high value on friends and family and time spent with them.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

My wife (who is half danish) and I are taking a trip this spring/summer (2015) to Denmark. It will be my first time visiting the country and I'm very excited about the trip and getting to see some of my wifes old stomping grounds. We decided the best way to see the country was to bike around Denmark for a couple of months. I've never liked traveling in the more traditional touristy way, I much prefer getting a chance to spend some time in an area and learning how the locals there live. So, I'm really hoping that my wife and I will be able to find some cool people to meet and stay with while we visit different parts of Denmark.

Interests

Ultimate Frisbee, Reading, Nature, Board Games & Card Games (the more strategy the better, though it can also lead to me being less fun to play with as my turns take way to long because I like to think everything through as thoroughly as possible and try to achieve the optimal play each turn, also included in this category are a number of timeless games like, in order of my aptitude for them, Chess, Poker, Bridge, Backgammon, and Boggle)

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I enjoy oldies and classic rock as well as other types. My favorite band is easily Pink Floyd as I think some of their albums are just incredible masterpieces that use excellent lyrics and a variety of sounds to invoke powerful emotional effects in the listener, and the connectivity between all the songs on an album in order to paint a bigger picture and tell a more complete story is just really well done. Other artists I enjoy include the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Brett Dennen, Ray LaMontagne, K'Naan, etc.

Movies: I like movies that leave you thinking, or that you are trying to figure out what exactly is going on the whole time you watch it like: The Game, Matrix, Memento, Fight Club, or Wicker Park. I also enjoy all sorts of movies from The Princess Bride, to When Harry Met Sally, to The Lord of the Rings, etc. But I generally don't like pure action movies.

Books: I really enjoying reading fantasy books like The Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien, His Darkest Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman (the trilogy is not commonly known by that name, it consists of The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass), and A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin. I also have really enjoyed reading some books of personal adventure/survival like Into the Wild or Living High (a book written by my great grandmother about herself and my great grandfather).
