ABOUT ME

I'm a recently graduated medical doctor. I lived the past 7 years in Helsinki, Finland and enjoyed my life there (whenever I wasn't travelling). During my studies I was active in an international student organization and met a lot of people from different cultures through that. I guess that's what started a ceaseless travel fever that can only be cured temporarily by traveling to new places every now and then.

In my teens, when I still was young and bendy, I used to dance a lot. Nowadays, I attend the odd dance class every now and feel old and sore for a week after that.

I moved in with my boyfriend in August 2012. I feel this is worth mentioning, because although I'm still officially living in Helsinki in my old apartment, in reality I'll be staying in Chicago for the most part of the coming year.

Currently, I'm volunteering at a high school health office, getting used to living on a different continent and trying to figure out what I want to become when I grow up for real!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Right now I'm staying a longer period in Chicago and cannot host couchsurfers myself. However, my red velvet couch is still in Helsinki in the apartment I used to live in! It's hosted by me old flat mate, Reetta and her boyfriend who moved in when I moved out.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

My introduction to CS took place in the fall 2010 when I was travelling with 2 friends of mine in the US and Canada. We couchsurfed in most of the cities we stayed at, and the experience was absolutely amazing. We met so many different people through CS along the way - from US militaries to horse farm keepers and french canadian bankers. But one thing they all had in common was that they were all extremely welcoming and hospitable.
I also met my boyfriend indirectly through CS, through a guy who hosted us in Chicago! After we came back to Finland we (me and my old flat mate, Reetta) hosted a number of surfers on our couch. My CS profile doesn't really reveal any of this, because all this surfing and hosting was communicated through my roommates account.
