About Me

CURRENT MISSION
Exploring the UK with my partner in crime (aka girlfriend), Lee, with Johnny Marr concerts in mind

ABOUT ME
Anyone who knows me also knows that I have an avid love for art, philosophy, and music - three things that are always fun to explore in other countries. I rarely go anywhere without Lee, so our plan is to travel together. While I haven't gone far from home in the ways of travel, I have always wanted to see the world and experience new things - being an insular American isn't really on my list of goals, so I try to soak up as much foreign knowledge as I can. My older sister has always been the traveller in the family, and I'm envious!

I often travel for concerts, meeting online friends in different cities and states at the shows. I've done 4 day road trips and I've been on planes since I was a baby, so travel is nothing new to me! It's just time to get out of the US. I also have family in Kent and Argyll, Scotland, and my girlfriend is from the Philippines (but lived most her life in Michigan).

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Since I work from home, I'm able to create my own schedule which allows me to make travel plans quite often. Right now, I'm looking to find a host for me and my girlfriend while we spend our time in Glasgow, Liverpool, and Manchester this November. If I make friends along the way, I'm always up for future plans where I can host someone here in Minneapolis!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I haven't used this before, so Lee and I are newbies. My sister is the one with the experience and she recommended it to me after having used it for Krakow and Vienna and had a positive review.

Music, Movies, and Books

It's hard for me to fit all my favourites into a specific category or ranking. In the ways of music, I grew up on classic rock from both America and England, so I have a soft spot for almost anything from the 60s-70s era. However, my recent interests have taken me to the synths and jangly guitars of the 80s, and I have a special interest in Mancunian rock and pop (not so much the Smiths as their guitarist, Stone Roses, The The, New Order, Buzzcocks, etc). I also enjoy Ryuichi Sakamoto, David Sylvian, David Byrne/Talking Heads, the list goes on and on. I am always open to hearing more! I'm cool with jazz, classical, indie rock, pop, early rap... basically anything but country.

Fave movies are usually documentaries, and I'm not really clued in with the new films, but I do like animated films since that's sort of up the alley of my career.

Books would have to be philosophical and non-fiction, though I enjoy some historical fiction or poetry from time to time. Favourite authors would be Aldous Huxley, Susan Sontag, Anne Carson, Oscar Wilde, Joan Didion, Alan Watts, lots of Beatnik authors, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Nothing too impressive, but I have hiked through northern Minneapolis and Wisconsin and seen beautiful scenery in Portland, Oregon. I've been through Boston, New York City, and done sled-dog trips, snowboarding, and snow tubing in Quebec, Canada. My girlfriend is originally from the Philippines and probably has more interesting stories than I do!

Teach, Learn, Share

I've learned that the best way to warm up to people is by taking them out to dinner. Lee and I are always open to trying new cuisine and would love to treat someone at their favourite restaurant as a way of paying them back for their hospitality. It's always a nice way to talk to people, too!

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share an open mind, and I love to learn more. I have infinite curiosity and am always down for a deep discussion about culture, music, art, history, or philosophy. Lee and I will probably be out and about on our own here and there, so if you're busy, don't worry! We can be independent and we have friends all over we're planning on saying hello to. In our down time we'd love a little insight on the local hotspots and advice on transportation, and that's all we need :-)
