Overview
About Me
I wrote a really cringeworthy profile back in 2013, so I've had to go through it and change some things. Quite a few things amused me though, so I still have them now in 2019.
CURRENT MISSION
Escape the modern technological tractor beam in favour of fully experiencing the moment uninhibited by a status update.
ABOUT ME
I am old fashioned in the material objects that I covet, but very open minded and positive in my attitude. I'd rather use a typewriter than a cell phone, good example of me. I love to do new things, and I love to travel and explore. I have a good sense of humour. I try to be a yes person because I find no people are let downs and hold back possible good times.
PHILOSOPHY
Live life in the now, don't be distracted by mobile phones, but immerse yourself in the moment and really appreciate it. Learn, explore and see the world. Doing even the most simple activity in a new place can be so much more life changing than staying home on the web. Keep doing things, anything could be an adventure. This sounds so hideously cliched haha.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Whatever works best for the surfer and the host. If the person I am hosting or being hosted by wants to hang out, it would be rude not to give them the chance to hang out. Conversely, I'm not too bothered if the other person needs their privacy, or is simply too busy to spend much time together. Easy going and flexible is the key!
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I have hosted a couple of lovely people back in Canada, and I have been hosted once in Liverpool by a great lad. I'm pretty easy going, and very used to staying with strangers having travelled around England meeting up with all kinds of tenuous contacts, distant family members, and even living with host families in Belgium.
Interests
Listening to music (rock, jazz, classical etc.), playing music (drummer, percussionist, violinist), watching sports (ice hockey, tennis, soccer, rugby, baseball etc.), playing sports (soccer, tennis, cross country skiing etc.), Star Trek, Middle Earth, travelling, hiking, any outdoor adventure, nature, wildlife, antiques, poetry, Mail Art, Belgian beer, home brew, Single Malt Scotch, alcohol tasting not binging, learning about languages, learning new skills, learning about cultures, I have a particular soft spot for English culture and the Commonwealth, World History, politics, environmental sustainability, local food sources, cooking, gardening, DUMPSTER DIVING!

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: most movies entertain me, though I don't often watch films unless prompted to with others.
Music: Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Queen, Jack White, Fleet Foxes, Wolfmother, Radiohead, ZZ Top, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Strawbs, Smashing Pumpkins, Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys, Fleetwood Mac, Rush, XTC, Waterboys, Jacques Brel, Van Morrison, most Jazz and so much more. I have a growing vinyl record collection and I love the aura attained by actually taking the time to sit down and listen to some analogue warmth. More recently become a bit of a metal head too!
Books: Tolkien, CS Lewis, Steinbeck, Hemingway, Ursula K Le Guin and so much more! Everyone on couchsurfing should read "Vagabonding: An Uncommon Guide to the Art of Long-Term World Travel by Rolf Potts" this book is amazing!
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
EarthQuest outdoor school, spent one semester of high school where my classroom was beautiful Kalamalka Provincial Park in BC and the teachers immersed the pupils in nature through English, Earth Science and Physical Education. I studied and learned surrounded and influenced by nature, biked everywhere, went on 4 overnight expeditions and learned more life skills than many people learn in a lifetime. Induced true love of life and all its possibilities.
Attended the World Student Environmental Summit in Sweden, 2011. Very good learning experience about what direction environmental sustainability is heading.
Teach, Learn, Share
Amateur beer and Scotch connoisseur. I have a blog about pubs and alcohol, and I love exploring new drinks in new pubs! Check it out if you want an honest look at how I spend some of my free time!

I could introduce anyone interested in art/poetry/abstract works and the snail mail system to Mail Art and the wonderful world that it is.
I could jam as a drummer if anyone needed a drummer for a jam session.
I could introduce music lovers to new bands, and certainly I could be introduced to new bands by other music lovers. Sometimes the best exchanges in life is a mixed CD or an album suggestion.
