HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I think there is much to be said about trading (ideas/philosophies, music, stories/experiences, recipes, goods) as a means to reciprocate the generosity of others. I suppose that's my present contribution to the project - I'm a trader.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

On the whole, it's been very positive. Admittedly, I haven't had the chance to host many couchsurfers in the past. Hopefully that'll change once I'm no longer renting a place.

Centres d'intérêt

Right now I'm interested in developing the land I purchased in Northern MN. At the moment, I live in a yurt on the property. I started building a house in December of 2015. I started planting a small orchard the year I bought the property and I'd like to continue working on it this spring.. additional trees, fencing. I'm interested in homesteading and providing as much for myself as I'm capable of. I'm fascinated by music and I guess by art too but I don't pretend to understand it so much. I love to cross country ski & sauna. I'm a Packers fan.

My favorite music at the moment includes LCD Soundsystem, Ministry, Daft Punk, Forest Swords, Active Child, Lana Del Rey, Empress Of, Youth Lagoon, Chromatics, Animal Collective, Julien Baker, Tiny Vipers, Death Grips, Woody Guthrie, Townes Van Zandt, Crystal Castles, Grimes, Mac DeMarco, Little Wings, The Carter Family, Cypress Hill, Silver Jews, Six Organs of Admittance, Sun City Girls, The Band, Slayer, and whatever they're playing right now on 89.9 FM KMOJ - The People's Station (Minneapolis, MN).

I don't care for most of the movies in the theaters. I don't even know what I like really. I liked Akira Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" and Paul Thomas Anderson's "There Will Be Blood."

I like books by Cormac McCarthy, James Carlos Blake, John Steinbeck, William Burroughs, John Fante, and Charles Bukowski. I'm also reading my friend's copy of Neil Gaiman's "Sandman" comic book series... ridiculously cool storytelling.

Northern California is outta sight but Salmon Summit (highest point in Humboldt County) is a temple of a place.. that was amazing. Though I have taken my old man to a few Packers games and Lambeau Field is a bit of a temple too so there's that...

Enseignez, apprenez, partagez

I've spent the past 7+ years farming. I've worked for farms in California, Washington, British Columbia, Alaska, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. In more recent years, I've farmed for myself in Northern Minnesota on Lake Superior's North Shore. I love to share insights and ideas regarding all aspects of organic vegetable production. I'm eager to learn more about raising animals as this is an area of farming I've yet to explore on a serious level.

I'm pretty flexible. Depending on timing and availability, I'm happy to throw money and/or ingredients at a collaborative meal? I can also be quiet and independent.. no sweat. Either way, I'm a non-smoker and I pick up after myself.
