About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to be fluent enough in Spanish to make jokes. Oh wait, I can't do that in English either.

ABOUT ME

I live in a suburb of Boston with nonexistant public transportation, though there is a train to the city about 3.5 miles away. I support universal health care! gay marriage!
My two kids in their early twenties. I'm hoping they don't find out until their thirties that I used to hitch-hike, as it would undermine my request that they not do stuff like that. My husband is a physician at a health clinic that serves mostly lower income patients. He is a wonderful generous man, but also very cautious, hence we have never hosted and he will probably never couchsurf with me.
I'm just to the left of Bernie Sanders, but I will just do that tight-lipped smile thing if you tell me how great you think Trump is - hey, everyone's entitled to their own opinion, no matter how wrong. I get annoyed with litterers, homophobes, and tailgaters (the driving kind, not the football picnic kind). People who don't use their directionals. People who start with "I'm not a racist, but..." and then say something racist.

I work mostly with children. At my main job, nearly all the adults and maybe half of the kids have diagnosed intellectual or behavioral issues. I love my work.

PHILOSOPHY

I try to mortify my children on a daily basis. It's a pretty low bar, though.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Attended an event, met someone who is staying in my town. We had lunch together. It was great.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

CS'ed in CA with my then-teenaged daughter with two wonderful women who were interesting and kind. In deference to the unease of my spouse, I have not hosted.

Interests

surfcasting, skiing, reading the newspaper, reading books, hanging out at the beach, Reading books. Hiking. Looking for wildlife, especially in my suburban backyard. Bicycling once I get a more comfortable seat. Kayaking

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: Tracy Chapman, Nirvana, REM, B52's, Richard & Linda Thompson, Los Lobos, Joni Mitchell, Pearl Jam, Patti Griffin
movies: Millions, Year of Living Dangerously, Kingpin, A River Runs Through It, Mystery Alaska (just the opening credits), Fargo. Breaking the Waves is a great movie I never want to see again, ditto for American History X, and I didn't even see the whole thing; TV(sorry) - Homicide, Arrested Development, Flight of the Conchords, Samantha Bee
Authors and books: Kazuo Ishiguro, Alice Munro, Bartimeus Trilogy, Dave Eggers, Junot Diaz. I'm re-reading "Infinite Jest"

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Seen:A man on bodybionic legs bouncing down the streets of San Francisco
Fox kits in my back yard (six! at the same time!)

Done:caught a 49 inch striped bass surfcasting in RI in December. Climbed Royal Arches when there was still a rotten log (1973)

Teach, Learn, Share

Hmm. I can filet a fish, but I am painfully slow. I feel obliged to get every last shred of flesh off the bones if I've killed it. I try to learn a new word in Spanish every week. And I taught both of my kids how to drive stick shift.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, China, Costa Rica, France, Italy, Mexico, Singapore, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Venezuela

Countries I’ve Lived In
