About Me
ABOUT ME
I am a 24 year old, living and working in Glasgow. I enjoy long summers outside the UK, discovering great new food and seeing a little more of the world with every trip I take. I was born and raised in England so am a fluent English speaker, and speak some Mandarin Chinese. Chinese is the main language that I am currently trying to improve but I have also studied some Japanese in the past and am hoping to find more time to work at it.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
It seems like perhaps the best possible way of getting an insiders look at a new travel destination and of making new friends! My mum has been hosting people since I went away to university and a few of them have become good family friends so I appreciate the value of a good host. Obviously the free bed is an attraction whilst travelling but I love meeting new people and finding out what's good in a new place from people who know more than the guide book.
Interests
I love food! Eating the stuff and cooking it and am always up to try a new local delicacy. I also enjoy taking in the local wildlife and landscape and don't mind climbing a mountain or two see something beautiful (though I'm invariably rather sweaty after a good hike). I'm always up to learn about local music culture and to see some local theatre, though nightlife and clubbing isn't so much my thing.

Music, Movies, and Books
My music taste is broad - everything from hip hop to rock to east asian pop to folk. When it comes to film I adore animation and am able to forgive a lot of nonsensical plot if it looks pretty, and I'm always up for a good sci-fi romp. With books I find that I either read everything at once or nothing at all - when in doubt I lean towards fantasy novels no matter how silly but anything that comes recommended to me I'm willing to checkout.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
When travelling in China I had plans to take a ferry from Dalian to Yantai. When I got to the ferry port to book my ticket I saw that ferries to South Korea were available so I asked about visas and as it turned out I didn't need one, I was on a ferry to Incheon the next morning with no local currency and very few language skills - my time in Korea turned out to be some of the best I've had whilst travelling.
Teach, Learn, Share
I'm able to help anyone with improving their English and I might be able to give an absolute beginner a lesson in Mandarin. I'm always up to improve my own language skills and to learn something about the local area and culture that I didn't know before. I would like to share whatever time a host could spare for me, be it a quick chat in the evenings or full days.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I'm more than happy to cook and clean for my bed, or to sing if you're brave. I hope we can at least share some conversation if nothing else.
