One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Started to travel abroad since the age of two months old. Currently Ive traveled to more than 50 cities in 15 countries: from North America to Europe to South East Asia. After all, I learned that the best traveling experience is when we are not only enjoying the scenic view, exotic cuisine but also helping to empower the community.

It happened in 2014 when I was sent to Wakatobi, Indonesia through community service. Known for its underwater heaven, Wakatobi has high number of tourists. However, it failed to offer local the products. The locals have understood the need, but it appeared that they preferred to engage in quick-yield activities instead of developing industrial process. The raw resources are on sale but they all are in un-processed form. This is due to the lack of entrepreneurship for allowing a chain of business activities and industrial processing to take place, which created a false impression that locals are lazy. Such a false assumption has been entrapped the local community in the prolonged sense of powerlessness.

This situation I faced during my community service work, opened my eyes to find a solution. I initiated
a project to empower women in Wakatobi, South East Sulawesi through micro-sized social
entrepreneurship. I led the project, serving as
a business consultant, handling the training sessions, marketing the products until connecting
the initiative members with government.
