ABOUT ME

Hi everyone !

Baltic Quay offers the perfect life style. A trend-setting home, with waterfront views, - a boat, bus or train ride away from the City and world class entertainment, with excellent links to great shopping and easy access to a fantastic range of leisure activities. Whether you enjoy the hustle and bustle of the West End, sailing on the Thames or running and cycling along it’s banks, or, if you prefer something a little less strenuous, you can or take a gentle stroll through parkland, or sit and watch the people go by, from one of the many old pubs, a walk away from your front door - it’s all here at Baltic Quay for you to enjoy.

PHILOSOPHY

life is all about progress, not necessarily perfection.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I want to pay the good deeds forward!
However, I'm only able to host a very limited number of guests per year.

* I consider my home a safe space. *
- A Safe Space is a place where anyone can relax and be able to fully express, without fear of being made to feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or unsafe on account of biological sex, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, cultural background, religious affiliation, age, or physical or mental ability.
A place where the rules guard each person’s self-respect and dignity and strongly encourage everyone to respect others.

Preference is given to LGBTQ and gay - friendly folks, women, and foreign tourists

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've hosted many people from all over the world. During travels abroad, I surfed a few couches in South America, Asia and Europe.
Now, I am residing in London with my partner.

Interests

I should probably start out by letting you know, off the bat, that I'm a bit of a nerd. I love quirky things: mostly ideals, concepts, lifestyles.
I'm a vegetarian and a fairly adventurous cook who enjoys buying fresh ingredients, throwing them together and seeing what edible fun stuff it turns into. I think that reused/ refashioned clothing can be pretty awesome. Local co-ops are great. I have a huge sweet tooth, but don't really care for chocolate. I love the outdoors: backpacking, skiing, hiking, running, swimming, biking, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, soccer. Of course I have a membership to an awesome community gym and am always looking to piggy-back off of the motivation of disciplined gym-goers. I'm also a huge fan of museums, indie movies, concerts and rediscovering little-known restaurants.
I've been fortunate enough to have traveled far and wide. My soul yearns to visit more places. On that note, CouchSurfing.org has become dear to my heart.
I like discussing foreign affairs over some good coffee, though I'm known to get a bit animated. I lean left when it comes to social progress. Academia is fascinating. I'm happiest when I'm around people that I care a lot about; house parties are the best. I can appreciate quiet moments, especially if they involve carbs and some sort of historical fiction. I'm more of a dog person than a cat person, but in all honestly, I tend to have a soft spot for all sorts of pets. I'm a proponent of green design principles and mix-use urban spaces.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy reading historical fiction, maybe most of all. A few examples are In Cold Blood and Centennial. I'm constantly reading current event journals. I have a few magazine subscriptions: Harper's, The New Yorker, National Geographic, The Economist, and Foreign Affairs. I also love reading the stories on NPR, Americablog, Slate, The AP, The New York Times, The BBC, Al-Jazeera, among many other.
One of my favorite books is called 'The Art of Looking Sideways.' I like the works of Arthur C. Clark, David Sedaris, Jane Austen, Chuck Palahniuk, and Dan Savage. The God of Small things is a great novel, as are Anna Kerenina and Lamb. I am currently reading 'The Singularity is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology' by Ray Kurzweil. My Favorite book is The Little Prince.
I love writings that play on words, like 'The importance of Being Earnest.' Edgar Allan Poe, T.S. Eliot, Robert Frost, and Emily Dickinson were brilliant.

My favorite movie of all time is Harold and Maude. there are so many awesome movies out there. let's see, Pedro Almodovar, Woody Allen, and Tim Burton can't really go wrong. Indie films are the best. seriously, I can't narrow this field down. I'm just going to throw some movie titles out there: Saved! Drop Dead Gorgeous, Moon, Fargo, Frida, Best in Show, Rushmore, Pan's Labyrinth, Sordid Lives,Donnie Darko, Precious, Run Lola Run, Alien, American Beauty, The Descent, Lord of The Rings, Everything is Illuminated, Eulogy, the Big Lebowski, Let the Right One In. For some reason B-rated horror flicks get my goat. Dark Humor, masterful cinematography, clever sci-fi float my boat.

As far as shows go, Planet Earth is amazing!I like The Simpsons, True Blood, United States of Tara, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Big Love, Modern Family, The original British version of Skins, Rachel Maddow Show, The Daily Show. I have been known to go through bad reality TV show phases. I'm looking forward to more Project Runway shenanigans.

It's also really difficult for me to narrow down some music/artists. I'm a big fan of Indie Folk/pop/rock. Here are some artists/bands that I really dig: Chris Garneau, Rufus Wainwright, Mika, Regina Spektor, Peter Bjorn and John, The Mountain Goats, Matson Jones, marketa Irglova, Sigur Ros, Jens Lekman, Phosphorescent, Dead Heart Bloom, Sujan Stevens, Modly Peaches,Devotchka, Yelle, Radio Head, She and Him, Billie Holiday,Belle and Sabastian, fleet foxes, Broken social scene, Beirut,Gogol Bordello,Band of Horses,Bjork, The Shins,OK Go, Le Tigre, yeah yeah yeahs, scissor sisters, Uffie, MIA, NASA, Jonah and the Whale, jay Brannan. On the more mainstream end,Lady Gaga and Beyonce are solid.

Food: I live for sweets and I don't eat any meat. My favorite character on Sesame Street was Cookie Monster. I wanted to be him... now I kind of am. oddly enough though, I'm not keen on chocolate. Indian and Nepalese food is very scrumptious. So is Pho and Thai. I've been accused of liking bland food and I've never met a cake I didn't like.
