About Me

I love it when people smell like the road. There's a certain gravity toss to folks who have given over control to whatever force that guides us when we are exactly where we need to be. I have been at the mercy of other people's good will, and when I find myself stationary in a city or town, I feel the need to give that back, and then some.

My first experience couch surfing was in New Zealand when I was 18. I hitchhiked with my then partner from Auckland to Christchurch.

My most recent couch surfing was in Alaska near Denali. Hitch hiking in Alaska was easier than I thought and similar to how folks respond to that kind of thing in NZ. I recommend it highly.

For now, I'm stationary with a dog and a cat and a long term partner. We're both New College grads and have a two bedroom apartment within walking distance of downtown St. Pete. It's a fun city with secrets and always something to do. We don't get out to the beach as often as we'd like, but we have several favorite spots to show you.

I really enjoy meeting fellow couch surfers, but have only gone to one event here in St. Pete. I enjoyed it immensely and I often find that the intersections between activists, couch surfers, and burners to be my favorite kind of fence to straddle.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: World-building narratives like the King Killer Chronicles, dystopian fiction like The Hand Maiden's Tale, steampunk mage tales with strong female leads like The Black Unicorn series, eco-poetics, spoken word, and pretty much anything that creates seriality and intersections of the artists' visceral experience with the audiences' response.

Movies/Shows: Weird shit, pop bubblegum romance trash novels, anything that glorifies hitch-hikers and trains, happy ending tragedies, soft core, zeitgeist-level conspiracy documentaries, good cop bad cop comedies, rag to riches fem cyber punk novellas.

Music: acoustic puppy-eyed white boys, trippy "my dad did a lot of acid" 70s rock, shoe gaze, rockabilly, experimental millennial trash, some bluegrass, Billie Holiday, electro-swing.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Swam/road on the shell of/ with a giant sea turtle in Maui. Time stopped.

Teach, Learn, Share

When hitch-hiking, always have a phone. If a driver makes you feel uncomfortable, the best trick someone taught me is to pretend you have a phone call and state where you are, the Hwy name, and the direction you are heading. Also, try to always hitch hike with a buddy.

If you're a woman and find yourself in a situation where you are very stuck and without shelter, find the nearest bar with others your age and just start drinking. Someone somewhere will feel your need and suddenly appear to your aid.

What I Can Share with Hosts

A decent tour of St. Pete and Tampa Bay. Good local eats and live music, plus the Saturday morning farmer's market is amazing. Lots of museums in walking distance. 15 minutes from the beach, 2 blocks from a large lake, & tons of breweries.

Countries I’ve Visited

Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Portugal
