About Me

Hi there! I’m Lok, originally from Hong Kong. My journey brought me to the Netherlands for a year of study abroad and then to Scotland, where I’ve been living since January 2021.

When I was younger, I wasn’t much of a traveler. Not speaking fluent English made me hesitant to step out of my comfort zone, and I spent most of my time buried in books, soaking up knowledge. But everything changed during university when I got the chance to study abroad. In 2019, I moved to the Netherlands, and that experience sparked my passion for exploring the world.

It wasn’t always easy—I spent endless hours listening to my international flatmates, trying to grasp Western culture and politics (still working on that one!). Slowly, I started traveling on my own, hopping on Flixbuses and staying in hostels. What I found wasn’t fear or danger but excitement and connection. I’ve met incredible friends and learned so much from the people and places I’ve encountered.

Discovering Couchsurfing added a whole new layer to my travels. It’s not just about seeing a city but experiencing its soul through the eyes of locals. From chatting with generous hosts to camping in strangers’ gardens, these moments have reshaped how I see the world and what it means to live fully.

This December, I’ll be exploring Latvia, Lithuania, and Stockholm, hoping to soak in the unique winter charm of these places. I’m excited to connect with locals, exchange stories, and learn about life from new perspectives. For me, traveling is more than just a hobby—it’s a way to embrace adventure and let life unfold one moment at a time.

Looking forward to meeting you and making meaningful connections on this journey!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m on Couchsurfing because I believe that travel is about more than just visiting new places—it’s about connecting with people, exchanging stories, and understanding life from different perspectives. Couchsurfing offers a unique opportunity to experience the heart of a destination through the eyes of locals.

For me, it’s not just about saving on accommodation; it’s about creating genuine connections, learning about cultures firsthand, and sometimes even forming lifelong friendships. Some of my most memorable experiences have come from sharing meals, conversations, and adventures with hosts who were kind enough to open their homes to me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Traveling: During a road trip, I took an unconventional approach by knocking on strangers’ doors to ask if I could camp in their gardens. This experience was both humbling and inspiring, showing me the power of human kindness and the joy of spontaneous adventure.

Concert: I organised a student concert that brought together 30 musicians from 16 different nationalities to form a band and perform. It was an incredible experience that highlighted the beauty of diversity and the unifying power of music. It truly was a "me too" moment for all of us!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach creativity and storytelling through music, songwriting, and content creation. Whether it’s crafting lyrics that resonate with emotion, sharing tips for social media management, or exploring metaphysical topics like Bazi and Tarot, I enjoy helping others express themselves and explore new perspectives.

I want to learn more about the cultures and traditions of the places I visit, as well as practical skills like music arrangement, fitness techniques, or even local recipes. I’m also eager to deepen my understanding of philosophy, psychology, and spiritual practices, and I love hearing personal stories that broaden my view of the world.

I’d love to share my passion for music, my experiences as a traveler and creative professional, and my perspectives on personal growth. Whether it’s over a meal, a walk, or a jam session, I believe meaningful conversations and shared moments create lasting connections.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share meaningful conversations about music, creativity, and personal growth. As a musician and content creator, I love exchanging ideas, whether it’s about songwriting, storytelling, or exploring metaphysical concepts like Bazi and Tarot.

I’m happy to bring a taste of my own culture from Hong Kong and Scotland, whether that’s through sharing stories, teaching you a few Cantonese phrases, or introducing you to unique perspectives from my life experiences.

If you’re interested, I can share tips on social media, content creation, or even how to approach creative projects with a fresh perspective. And of course, I’m always up for helping around the house, cooking together, or simply enjoying a good chat over coffee or tea.
