About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To think of a mission

ABOUT ME

Always wanted to live and work in a country where English is not the native tongue. Didn't choose Estonia on purpose but got a job offer and didn't need to think twice about moving. My Estonian skills can be considered work in progress. Been here 10 years. Have a big list of places I want to go, and right now a lot of northern/eastern Europe is suddenly more accessible. Maybe I will see you out here soon!

PHILOSOPHY

If you worry too much about the future then you'll never enjoy the present.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Recommended to me by a friend here in Tartu. Surfed his couch for a few days when I moved over initially. Also done a little bit in Ukraine, Finland and Norway.

Interests

SPORTS: playing football, rugby, cricket (not so much in Estonia!), squash, and doing distance running and keeping fit generally. Does Wii Sports count?! Watch most other sports.

MUSIC: Classical to Jazz to Rock and everything in between. Play the bassoon in an orchestra right now and bass guitar in a band. Also play clarinet and saxophone, and attempting the ukulele after a friend convinced me to try!

OUTDOORS: Absolutely love walking and camping and appreciating natural history.

TRAVELING: Essentially I go to as many places as I can and try to experience something a bit different if I can. Whether it's city breaks or backpacking solo, or a grand road trip with mates - I'll give it all a go!

OTHER: Photography, cooking, languages, anything new!!

Music, Movies, and Books

MOVIES: World cinema mainly (although the subtitle function on my DVD player broke which defeats this now!).

MUSIC: Most things like I said, but favourite bands include Muse, Radiohead, Oasis, Gomez, Kasabian, Franz Ferdinand, Stone Roses. Love jazz and funk - Herbie Hancock is great. Sibelius is my favourite "classical" composer.

BOOKS: Travel literature. Too much to mention really but "Red Dust" by Ma Jian, is really good. It has a really great quote - "The road measures life in distance. The further you travel, the longer you live".

TV: Peep Show has to get a mention too because it is THE funniest comedy ever!
